I am Hyuuga Neji, a member of the Branch House of the Hyuuga Estate...Despite my mastery of Jūken and Byakugan, I can never be the leader of my clan because I'm a member of a branch house, my father, Hyūga Hizashi, having been born after my uncle, Hyūga Hiashi, even though they were twins. In my childhood, I had nothing against the main family as I was probably too young to fully understand the implications of being a branch family member, but as I grew up seeing my father feeling nothing but hatred for his own brother and the main family, I gradually came to resent it himself. My resentment only deepened as I witnessed my father enraged first hand while watching Hyūga Hinata, Hiashi's elder daughter and then the destined Hyūga main family heir, train with her father; for he knew that I, his own son will never be the heir of my clan. Detecting my father's vibes of animosity, Hiashi activated the Juin (Cursed seal), putting his brother in immense pain as his nerves were being attacked. It was my first encounter with the Hyūga Curse Seal....Later, my father was sent to his death instead of Hiashi, and I grew up believing that my father was sent against his will to protect the Hyūga clan's secret bloodline..This chain of events drove me to the point of believing that a person's future is decided from birth and that there was no way to escape or change destiny, making me a particularly bitter, cynical and arrogant character with a spiteful grudge against the main house.....However, Naruto changed that.
In the Chuunin exams, I went against both my cousin Hinata, and Naruto..I was beaten by Naruto, who changed my whole outlook on life, and the way I thought about things...He saved me from the darkness..
