He is an acquired taste - that's all I can say. I first heard him when I was in highschool nearly 10 years ago. A friend let me listen to a Primus cd, and Tom did the guest vocals on "Tommy the Cat". But yeah, I started out with his early albums and worked my way up. Now I've heard them all except his most recent; I haven't got around to downloading it yet, but it's on my list. But it's refreshing to see young people (err..younger than me) interested in Tom Waits. He's the only artist who can make me laugh out loud, then turn aroundcry like a baby smile
I gave Modest Mouse a listen several years ago and didn't care for them, but I work with a guy who is really into their music. Maybe I'll give them another try.
