There are English classes which fulfill "liberal arts" reqs; They're similar to your typical general education classes (history, math). Some professors try to make it apply to what you are doing but it's not a big deal to take them there (most save money by transfering in those classes)

I guess that's something we have to work on our owns. Personally, I think it's really important but that also depends on what the illustrator plans to do; do they envision themselves drawing for their own stories, or for another person? We're expected to learn that on our own.

My school is uber traditional. Pretty much learning to be creative is on your own time.

(sorry for all the text o,o) In short: it's mostly drawing.

I can help but give a really long answer when I'm asked this. xD But well, my major is illustration but that can include of a lot of various things.

Graphic novel or sequential arts
Children's story book
Concept Art
Storyboard

All these could be related to things like film and animations (storyboards). Then there is advertising or editorials. Style can be varied, but I think a person should know the fundamentals first. Some famous illustrators are: Howard Pyle, Norman Rockwell, JC Leyendecker, Coles Phillips, Al Parker. Some of the newer illustrators (ones that are still alive anyway) are: James Jean, Craig Thompson, Tomer Hanuka, Alex Pardee, and so on. :3
