Yes, it would make sense, however it's the way the wrist and hand movements work. See, no matter the grip of it, it would be harshly easy to parry away, because the shortness of the wrist and the many ways it could be rotated make it so. However, the simplicity of the elbow would limit the movements of the blade. This may sound bad, but when in close combat, you want to stay in control of your weapon, and to do so you must first sacrifice movement. Of course you don't want to lose movement completely, that's why it being up on the forearm is much better than being up on the entire arm or on the wrist.
But perhaps you could have a shifting extension weapon? That way, your guardian may use all three styles, speed, strength, and balanced.

Well, actually, I meant that since it was so low on the arm, the scythe part would be hard to manuever, even if it weighed nothing, as wrist movement is based on simple turning, whereas it being up on the forearm, it could be much easier to control. The gun part, I understand for the wrist, but the blade is much more prominent, and looks to be the main subject at that area.
Now, I can't really critisize your choice on there being no lips, however it would be rather hard to talk.
And as for the feet, I didn't mean they looked strange because of them being demonic, I meant that the position bothered me.
