Night gathers, and now my Watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. I shall live and die at my post. I am the Sword in the Darkness, I am the Watcher on the Walls. I am the Fire that burns against the Cold. The Light that brings the Dawn, The Horn that wakes the Sleepers, the Shield that guards the realms of Men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night's Watch, for this night and all the nights to come.

My name is Jon Snow. I belong the Wall. I am the b*****d son of Eddard Stark, Lord of Winterfell, betrayed and unjustly beheaded by the boy king Joffrey Baratheon. I am half-brother to to Robb Stark, the King in the North, Sansa Stark, Arya Stark, Bran Stark, and Rickon Stark. These relationships are in my past and my life and death is now dedicated to the Wall.

My brothers are the Night's Watch. Together we guard the realms of Men against the terrors of the North. However, we are too few and are charged with holding too much. We seek the aid of able-bodied men willing to devote their lives to the Wall. My brothers have taken it upon them to choose me as their Lord Commander. I take no happiness in what I do, but I strive to perform my duty to the Realm. I am armed with a blade of Valyrian Steel, known as Longclaw and my only companion who has remained with me from my past is my direwolf, Ghost.

I shall do whatever it takes to protect the Realm against the Darkness and although I no longer belong to Winterfell, it is perhaps the words of House Stark that will ring most true in all of Westeros.

For winter is indeed coming....
