A quote from one of my best friends.
Do you know who you are?
Did you ever wonder why people are unhappy with themselves, why they dislike, or maybe even despise themselves? Maybe it’s because they really aren’t who they think they are? I like to think of it as them disliking who they are not. You see, so many people are influenced by many types of media and friends, that they actually have a goal to be what everyone else thinks is “cool” or “regular”. In my opinion, there is no regular, simply because of the fact that no two people are exactly alike. Everybody has some sort of a difference. Whether it is big or small, it is still a difference none the less. Many people like and dislike different things, even though they may try to pretend they like certain things, or are a certain type of person, just to be “accepted in the crowd”. Some people may be so consumed in this ideal way of living that it almost seems like they do not even exist. Even though they really do exist, they are not being themselves, acting the way they would act in a certain situation rather than the way they believe someone would expect them to act, dressing the way they would like to dress rather than dressing to look like everyone else wants them to look, or even standing up for what they believe in instead of following what others say just to “fit in”. I find it much more enjoyable to be myself, to act they way I act, and to stand out in the little ways that defines me. This doesn’t mean you can’t like what other people like, just like it because “you” like it and not because “others” like it. Many people do like similar things as other people, but there is a difference in liking similar things as others, and just liking what they want you to like. Life isn’t about trying to be the way others want you to be, all you have to do is be yourself, act like yourself, think like yourself, and stand up for what you believe in. Just remember, as you may believe in something strongly, don’t ever be afraid to hear out the other side, to see what others have to say about what they believe in. Why would you expect to have people hear what you have to say about what you believe in, if you won’t hear what they have to say about what they believe in? They are just expressing themselves, just as you will be. ~Muzickmaniak
