I agree with your reasoning; granted, my parent was not the most.... what's the term... 'permissive' with me either. But your age does provide them with a lot of incentive to be that way. However, there are things you can do; hang out at your friend's houses, for example, where your parents aren't so certain you'll be unwatched. It helps if you make sure your friend's parents are home at the time.
But more to the point, I'd just be patient until you're older, and work on developing trust with them at this point in time. When you're older, they'll be far more permissive than they are now, but if you make sure that they can TRUST you, they won't do it grudgingly. They might even let you do things earlier than that, if you work at developing trust with them now.
