you dotn really need to worry about that dragon, he is completely optional. xp But that sword is really usefull for newbie players. Too b a dim not on psn, i would co op and give you some awesome weapons and armor i have spares of

after taurus demon, and after the dragon blasts youwith fire when you go ont he room below the bridge, to open the shortcute to the bon fire.. yes youll be below the bridge and you can shot arrows at its tail for it. just youtube drake sword.

no shops. Theres a guy int he undead burg, who sells stuff. a girl on the shortcut on thee way back to firelink shrine, after the capra demon.. uhh some black smiths sell stuff. and youll find npc as you continue who sell stuff.. now if you wanna sell you can only sell to frampt the sleeping snake thing. You have to ring both bells of awakening first though. Where are you in the game right now?
