The Nick Fury that is black came from the Ultimate Universe which is similar to the 616 where most published comic titles come from. The Ultimate fury is the same as the Main stream one (616) however, he is black and bald. The reason they did that was to probably have more variety in comics because people of all type want to be shown in some way or form in a nice fashion. For example in the Ultimate version, Colossus is homosexual as Jean Paul. Spider Man/Peter Parker is still a teenager and has his crisis back to back. The Hulk is grey and eats humans and is a little bit more vulgar than in the 616. So yeah. Hope that answered your question. But Fury who is black seems a little more cooler than the main stream one. The Main stream one is more of a pencil pusher who orders people around where as his counter part doesn't take anyone's crap and isn't afraid to get his hands dirty.
