Who You Wont to Know

Sorrow is better than laughter: for by sadness of the countenace the heart is made better.

I beg of you f o r g i v e m e try to see who I've become for the [strikethrough]weak child[/strikethrough] I was before died
l o n g a g o

{{Just a note from Gabby! This is my colesplaying account! Anything I write NOT in parenthesis is purely fiction in the characterization of Cecily (Spike's "first love") from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Head over to my main, Winterwoowoo if you want to talk to me!}}

T he heels of your boots click ominously as you step briskly up to the huge oaken door, your hands balled into fists. So she's still alive, eh? Well if Spike himself won't play the game of Devil's advocate, then you'll do it yourself. That's what you think as your fingers curl around the cool steel knocker. Sure you're glad you have Spike, but he wouldn't have to exist without her nasty kick in the teeth. "BANG!"
The temptation to knock again itches in your hand, but you're saved as the door begins to creak open. First a small white silk-covered fist appears around the door, then a skirt flips fleetingly around the corner, and then a whole person. A petite little wisp of a woman covered head to foot in black and gray, aside from a rose pinned to her wrist, pulling that heavy door with what seems all the effort in her being. How could such a tiny thing cause so much trouble?

look here she comes now
bow down and stare in wonder
oh how we love you
no flaws when you're pretending
but now i know she

With a last huff, she heaves the door aside and greets you warmly, gaining a cold, limp hand in return. "Salutations! I extend my most greetings to you! Won't you come in, rest for a moment and have some tea? I just..oh..oh,I see." She comes to the realization you're not there to make friends. Your cool manner and roiling glare tell that much. Her face suddenly falls, exposing old weariness she can't seem to hide any longer.

never was and never will be
you don't know how you've betrayed me
and somehow you've got everybody fooled

"So you've heard of Miss terrible Cecily Adams before? *sigh* I suppose I should explain. If, if you'll only give me a few moments of your time, I can confirm and, ah, set things straight. Please?" You nod slightly, brushing past her offered hand into the house. And yet, her kindness never wanes. "Do have a seat. First, allow me to formally introduce myself, if you will."

Name: Cecilla Rose Adams
Age:...well a preserved 19 from within a dimensional bubble, but technically a little over a hundred...
Birth date:
Blood-type: (why exactly do you want to know? *narrows eyes*) ab positive
History: A popular Victorian aristocrat from London, whose brother attended university with a man by the name of William Pratt - who you call, with what I hope is fondness, Spike - {{with some people it may be more than that..*clears throat* carrying on!}},. The year of 1880, she met William herself, after being introduced at the book store he'd inherited. Although of a lower class, he was later invited to attend balls, and did so as a family friend. William became interested in her, but because of both their social classes and his lack of wealth, he made no formal requests. (His interest, however, was obvious as an elephant with red toenails) But his poetry written in secret to Cicely was found. With the threat of either their parents finding out and in a frantic attempt to save face and reputation, Cicely brutally broke his heart, sending him running into the darkened streets of London and...you know what happened next.

Her head is lowered as she focuses intently on working a small wrinkle from the silk of her mourning dress. Your hackles rise, disbelieving that she could actually do such a thing. You shake your head in disgust."Shallow witch."
"Is that what you think I am?"

never was and never will be
have you no shame? Don't you see me?
you know you've got everybody fooled

Oops, you hadn't realized you said that out loud. Nervously fiddling with the china in your hand you try to find a decent answer, only to settle for staring at her open mouthed, dumbly. Her face was so.. You turn away, at a loss for words.

i know the truth now
i know who you are
and i don't love you anymore

"Well." She sighed again, something that was becoming a habit. "I can't expect your forgiveness, much less his; yet I can ask for an inkling of understanding. I was young, the threat of my reputation, of my parents reputation, could have set off a domino effect that would have irrevocably destroyed my chances of marriage. There was absolutely nothing else in a way of choices but marriage, nothing a girl with morals could possibly consider. It's no excuse, but.." She trailed off biting her lip, searching for the words. With another sigh, she tries again.
"In England, it was a world apart from America, not to bore you with a history lesson. But classes, you where born were you where born; you couldn't go down or up. No matter how many generations past, even if you were a man who had gathered the most riches in all the earth. If you started in the working class, you could never be an aristocrat." She shrugs. "At first I just wanted to discourage him subtly. But I panicked when thrown into the public eye. Truth be told, he was a good friend. Not close. That wasn't simply possible, but good company in a boring ball or luncheon where otherwise I would have been required to prattle on mindlessly." A smile crosses your lips before you can stop it, thinking of how she really had the talent. Apparently she wasn't expecting you to smile, and comes just short of dying those pretty white gloves a permanent mud brown.
"And you regret it?"

it never was and never will be
you don't know how you've betrayed me
and somehow you've got everybody fooled

She doesn't hesitate to agree. "I do regret how it happened, what I said to him, even the fact that I wasn't able to save him from having regrets of his own doing. And of course, an untimely death of sorts." She pauses to look up, a hint of conviction flashing in her eyes. "But I don't regret what happened. I do not believe God conceded to such a happening if William hadn't needed to be in the future; it made him a stronger person than he ever could have been. Besides this, I am not one to wallow in regret." You could see that. No broody baby like some people you know. "I think saving the world from utter destruction at the hand of ultimate evil was worth a broken heart."
This was getting sort of interesting. But no more history, how about the here and now. An how was she here and now, anyway? Now you have a question! One hopefully not so ...rude. "How are you alive so long? I mean, you have to be, like 100 and some odd years and you don't even look 25."
After the initial deer-in-the-headlights stare, she laughs lightly at your sudden compliment. Goodness her personality is as contagious as it was shifty. You came in hear to insult the heck out of her and now your acting like her, uh, company or something.
"That, my dear, is going to take a lot of explaining." Uh-oh, prattle mode here we come. "And I'm not a vampire or a vengeance demon if that's what your thinking." She shakes her head, sending you a wry smile in response to your surprise. With dainty suddenness, a white gloved finger flicks outward - drawing your eyes to the plethora of baked goods awaiting, doubling their lovely sweetness in the reflecting mirror of a polished platter. For all their heady warmth, seems as though it might as well be directly under your nose.
"But first! Have a scone?" Her smile pulls at the hollowed, tender skin of her pale cheeks, a futile fisting of the lips to control their shaking. "They're those blueberry almond ones. I made them just this morning.."
Well, free food is free food. But...

it never was and never will be
you're not real and you can't save me
somehow now you're everybody's fool...

Your welcome!
Do you mean what I wrote on my profile? Yes, I most definitely did! Although the character's origins lie in Joss Weldon's creativity. I've just take some time to elaborate and embellish her fuzzy past. She's from the TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
