At any given moment the floor may open up.
Of course, it almost never does;
that's what makes it so boring."

Why Bastet Neith !?

Daughter of the sun god Ra, wife of Ptah, and mother of Mihos, Bastet is the Kemetic (ancient Egyptian) Goddess of cats, dawn, civilization, home, bounty, plenty, enlightenment, art, music, dance, creation, birth, fertility, sex, physical pleasure, lesbians, truth, hemp, marijuana, drugs, the Moon and the rising Sun.
Bastet was one of the "Eyes of Ra", the title of an "avenger" god who is sent out specifically to lay waste to the enemies of Egypt and her gods.
Related to Neith, the Night Goddess, she symbolized the moon in its function of making a woman fruitful.

Bastet seemed to have two sides to her personality, docile and aggressive. Her docile and gentle side was displayed in her duties as a protector of the home, and pregnant women. Her aggressive and vicious nature was exposed in the accounts of battles in which the pharaoh was said to have slaughtered the enemy as Bastet slaughtered her victims.

Bastet’s name means “She of the bas-jar” . Bas-jars were heavy perfume jars, typically filled with expensive perfumes. She was also called the "Lady of the East". As such, her counterpart as "Lady of the West" was Sekhmet,her twin sister.

The cult center was Bubasti (Nile Delta) and rituals honoring Bastet included light-hearted barge processions and orgiastic ceremonies.
Bastet was depicted as a cat, or as a woman with the head of a cat, a sand cat or a lion. She is often shown holding the ankh (representing the breath of life) or the papyrus wand (representing Lower Egypt).

Cats were very sacred animals to the ancient Egyptians: they were demigods. Cats held a high, honoured position in many households and were more important even than humans. Anyone caught harming or killing a cat, even by accident, was punished by death.

The lotus flower :
It played an important part in ancient Egyptian religion. The pure white lotus flower, the only plant to fruit and flower simultaneously, emerges from the depths of the muddy swamp. It closes at night and sinks underwater. In the morning it re-emerges and blooms again. Thus the flower became a natural symbol of the sun and creation.
The lotus was commonly used in art as a symbol of Upper Egypt. It was often shown with its long stems intertwined with papyrus reeds (a symbol of Lower Egypt) as a representation of the unification of the two lands.
