So neat that you do traditional art! I am a total paper and pencil person whee I recently started trying out apple pencils at the apple store, and quite liked it, though! It seemed intuitive and you might enjoy it too if you haven't tried it out already! 4laugh

It's neat that you taught at an art class! If the focus of the class is about fine arts, I suppose I can see why management would want to tweak the children's work and intervene to give pointers. I used to take a fine arts class with a private instructor for over a decade, and he would regularly come around and make some minor (or major, haha) corrections to student work. That's sort of how I learned from my mistakes and improved. However, I do personally feel that if the class is geared towards expressive art with the goal of enjoying the process of art-making or producing creative art, that children should have the freedom to make art as they wish. They should be able to do that without the teacher "correcting" what they make! I totally agree with you on that one.

LOL I had to search up "B&B". Opening up a cafe or B&B would be SOOOO cute!!!! I'd absolutely love that! You could add personalized art to decorate your place too! 4laugh heart

What type of art would you be interested in? Like traditional art, design, illustration, etc?

There are actually quite a few careers I'd LOVE to be in as well. Art therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy are big ones on my list. I have a hard time focusing on just one thing. whee

Hospitality management -- how neat!! Seems like you can go into quite a few different routes and industries with that degree. Working at a beach club sounds like fun! ^_^

Sorry to hear it isn't really something that you're super passionate about, though! Do you have a hunch as to what you would find to be a motivating career? It's never too late to make a switch, and perhaps you could find the flexibility to do something part-time. Or, something to merge hospitality management with your area of interest! I'm just thinking about my field, and if I had a hospitality management background, I could really bring a lot to the table at a rehab or skilled nursing facility.

Physiotherapy -- that's so interesting! I can see how that can really help kiddos who have difficulties with gross motor, motor planning, muscle tone, or coordination issues. Yes, the autism spectrum is huge and each case is unique!

Yeah, at some point (very soon, it seems like), our school admin will be reaching out to CPS. There seems to be neglect and possible abuse going on in that home. sad

I do love the work that I do! It's not a glamorous job, nor is the pay good, but I absolutely love it.

I'm curious to know -- what's your area of study? Are you currently working?

I don't have children yet. And yes, I've come across parents who have been insensitive to their child's needs. Just today, one of our kindergarteners (with high-functioning autism and a myriad of other diagnoses) put his hands into his pants, pulled his hands out covered in feces, and ate some of it while smearing it onto his face, shirt, and pants. He then proceeded to try and smear it on other surfaces and on the adults in the room. This isn't the first time it has happened, but instead of cleaning him off in the nurse's room today, we called home to ask the parent to pick him up and and clean him. His father comes, picks him up, and then drops the boy back at school about an hour later, with the SAME clothes on. The child was obviously still dirty; it looked like Dad had only wiped him with a paper towel because there was some excess excrement. By golly. So the nurse cleaned him up with disinfectants and gave him a new shirt (we didn't have extra pants laying around), but he refused to use mouthwash to clean the feces in his mouth. We were trying to contain him again because he was exhibiting behaviors (kicking, screaming, running, biting) and could not join the class with the obvious public health concern. So, we called Dad again and asked him to come take his son home. When Dad came, he continued to seem unfazed by his child's behaviors as our school admin was explaining to him what happened, and Dad even used profane language during their conversation (not in an aggressive or mean way, but it's just how he normally speaks). He said he'd punish his boy by taking away his iPad for a month. Uhhh....totally unrelated.....and completely inappropriate.....as a punishment for the boy's behaviors. gonk Our school team was just shocked by how uneducated the parent was. While I sympathize for the boy and family, I cannot help the mental facepalms from occurring.

I realize this was totally TMI, but to answer your question -- yes, I've come across numerous parents who are not sensitive to their child's needs. whee

Hiya! What a nice message to read! 4laugh I don't mind sharing at all. I find myself observing and thinking about children and parents because I'm a therapist who has primarily worked with the pediatric population. I used to work in early intervention and developmental centers (0-5 year olds), so I have an eye for young children with special needs. I tend to be overly vigilant about observing behaviors that seem developmentally atypical, such as excessive hyperactivity, lack of verbal or nonverbal reciprocity, or difficulty with the pragmatic use of language. The reason why I feel like I should apologize is because I do get judgmental feelings towards parents when I see them shutting down prime opportunities to foster their child's language/social development, inappropriately disciplining a noncompliant child, etc. whee

PlayStation was such a game changer.. up to that point, I was playing Sonic on the Sega Master System II. First glimpses of a PlayStation I had, when we had one in the house was a dinosaur from Dino Crisis walking on the screen. It was the coolest thing I had seen up to that point. Oh, and sub zero ripping out an enemies skeleton on Mortal Kombat had stuck with me too lol.

Nah it's cool. Tired of people thinking it's a pity plea when they ask and I tell them. Really makes me angry haha.

You did come across as sympathizing, not pitying btw.

What are you up to now?

No more than other people, in fact a lot less than some.
I don't need pity and I'm not playing it out like I'm the most damaged person around, but quite frankly I'm not. xD

-Hugs you back.- I do appreciate the concern, though, and the little chat about it. Feels good to get it off my chest.
