I've actually only seen it used in boxing (hurrhurr Rocky is left handed), though technically it's a baseball term, based on left handed pitchers and what direction their pitches came from via the baseball diamond.

xd I originally picked the name as a left hander irl and needed something spiffy to go in front. "Slick" just sounded right and slightly dirty enough to suit my purposes.
