He didn't understand what he'd done to her, but he would by the time she was finished

"So... you're finally awake."

The voice rung in Aenon's brain as a dull throb. He groaned, shifting slightly while his eyes slid open the slightest bit. The room was dark, and... wet? Which is ironic, all things considered-It was just wetter than usual.

He then realized, achingly slow, that it was also very warm. Too warm, really.

His eyes slid open more, and he then also realized he was on the floor, unable to move his arms or legs.

"Where...Where am I?" Aenon coughed. It felt like it was getting warmer by the second. He could feel his body starting to simmer.

The voice responded in a clipped manner, "Exactly where you deserve to be."

Aenon recognized that voice, and as his eyes completely opened he finally started to comprehend his surroundings. To his surprise, he was bound by his arms and legs on the floor of what seemed to be a log cabin- and less surprising but far more worrying was the bright blinding light in the far corner of the room. It was a light he knew intimately, and one he was ever fond of seeing. Though, seeing that beautiful light in a situation such as this was extremely concerning.

"Idris... What's going on?" Aenon tried to keep his tone curious.

She scoffed, stepping closer and more in focus. Her features became apparent, white eyes burning holes into Aenon's own, and her look was none too pleased. She was seething, and Aenon couldn't think of why. Her blazing head of fire burning bright and shifting rapidly made her look even more intimidating.
It was with a sinking feeling that Aenon noticed that the room was also slowly starting to catch fire as well.

"You don't get it, do you? Ha. You never do- always innocent, so unknowing. Absolved of all blame... but I know your game. I never should have trusted you. I never should have let you get-" She inhales sharply, her voice sounding strained before bursting, "I should have never let you get close to my heart! You hurt me! You're just like everyone else. I just thought... I thought you were different. I thought you were cool, you jerk." Her fire seemed to wilt slightly as her voice tapered off; it only lasted for a second before she slipped back into her anger.

"But I don't-" Aenon cut himself off in fear of angering her further for actually not knowing what's going on. Though, what was he supposed to say? "Idris... I'm sorry for what I did." He spoke carefully.

She seemed to get angrier anyway, "You're sorry? You're sorry?! Do you even know why you're apologizing?"

Aenon kept quiet, unable to think of a response. His body was starting to boil as the fire spread closer.

Idris growled before punching the wall nearest to her- her hand burning a hole straight through to the other side.

"I know you're mad but I really don't understand-"

"Shut up!" She shouted, flames growing with her outburst.

She quieted, breathing heavily as the room was draped in silence- except for the sounds of flames eating wood and his skin starting to evaporate. These flames would eventually consume him- making him boil into nothing but moist air. Though- he couldn't bring himself to care; with all the spats that they've endured- or fights that they've hashed out, this felt different. This felt like a nail in the coffin, and it was making Aenon's stomach twist with regret. He stared at the woman made of fire in front of him, even in her rage looking as beautiful and all consuming as the day he met her centuries ago.

"Idris, I love you." Aenon said instinctually.

Idris' eyes locked on his, her rage softening the smallest bit. Fire elementals couldn't exactly cry; he's never seen one cry at least, but Idris looked as close to crying as one could being made of fire. His stomach twisted more and his chest started to hurt.

The flames have almost completely consumed the cabin; it began to fall apart, the ceiling caving and the sky revealing where they were. Aenon only caught a glimpse of this however, as Idris walked closer and his attention zeroed in on the love of his life. She looked down at him for a moment, before she reached her hand out. If this is the end, so be it. Aenon knew he played with fire more than what was good for his health. The only reason he was concerned was that, when they touch like this- it hurts Idris too.

"Wait, don't-"

She grabbed the rope, her hand sizzling out and his hands evaporating, moist air puffing up between them as she lifted him off the floor. It hurt, but he couldn't look away from her. She stared long and hard at Aenon- and in that moment, Aenon saw all the hurt she endured these past centuries, and all the ways she deserved more. He gasped when he saw it before dropping back to the ground suddenly, realizing she had burnt the rope binding his arms.

The cabin's fire had died down as hers did, and he realized it was snowing outside. He could feel himself starting to regain the lost moisture as the snow fizzled out on Idris' hair.

She spoke quietly after what felt like an eternity, "Goodbye Aenon."

Aenon opened his mouth- but she turned and blasted into the sky before he could even get out a sound. He watched her flame get further and further, before it eventually looked like a star in the night sky, then looked like nothing.

He sat on what was left of the floor of this cabin, snow fall as his only company, in a long moment of silence.
