Vaccinating
Today I found myself at the brunt of an assault by pro-vaccinators. Not that there is anything wrong with that, everyone has their own opinions and your own is not always the most popular. It has me thinking, however. I found this image that I think fits well here:

I do not deny that some vaccinations are valuable, but I question the number and frequency of required vaccinations. New research from medical professionals is surfacing that disputes the necessity of vaccinations and links vaccinations with neurological disorders such as autism.

This is a concern to me, and even though I got pretty slammed by pro-vaccinators in the forums today, I know I'm not the only one. Neither of my sisters have vaccinated their kids and several of my friends have refused the annual recommended flu vaccinations. I myself have not been vaccinated since elementary when it was forced upon me. As a soon-to-be parent I now must question whether or not I will force my children to be vaccinated.

I am particularly alarmed by the number of reported cases from parents about young and otherwise healthy and bright children suddenly developing signs of autism or narcolepsy after receiving vaccinations. I also must question how many newborns that are vaccinated and later diagnosed with brain dysfunctions are actually born with the disease? How can you determine which are born with a disease and which have been adversely effected by vaccinations? Even the CDC does not dispute that there are side effects for different vaccinations, with one of the recognized side effects being permanent brain damage.

I happen to have a history of brain disease in my family, so I am therefore at higher risk to develop a brain disorder, as are my kids. I do what I can with my diet to help prevent the surfacing of a brain disease. Sometimes the best medicine is prevention, right? So the fact that studies are showing a possible link to brain diseases is very worrisome from my perspective. No doubt this has something to do with frequency - too much of anything can kill you, even water.

I also wonder about everything that is in a vaccination. Many vaccines contain fetal cells, and this bothers me on a moral level. I happen to also be a vegetarian and so a sense of animal rights is also a part of my being. I believe in animal protection, and I can't see how consuming fetuses - in whatever fashion - is any more moral.

I also wonder about the effectiveness. Take the flu shot, a lot of people that get it still end up with flu. It doesn't prevent is just reduces the possibility, or so they say. Proper hygiene also reduces the possibility...so does a healthy diet...there are so many other factors involved. I have had the flu once in my life, and yes it sucked. I spent 3 days on the couch huddled under a blanket with a bucket under my chin. However, this was 5 years ago. I believe that the experience allowed my body to build it's own immunity to the disease. Someone pointed out that I could still be a carrier, even without symptoms, and could still spread it; but is it not also true that someone who has been vaccinated can do the same?

I read something the other day on my handy facebook thread. Okay, may not seem like a very legitimate source, but some of that stuff that comes along on my page has a ring of truth to it and makes me think if nothing else. Anyway it was one of those images with the quote stuck on top, went like this: "If a dentist makes money off people with unhealthy teeth, why should I trust a toothbrush and toothpaste that 4/5 dentists recommend?" Think about this for a moment if you will. You trust your dentist recommendation that 'such and such' toothpaste will keep your teeth healthy, but the dentist doesn't profit from healthy teeth, s/he profits from unhealthy teeth. So does that not leave an opening for corruption? The very person who makes money off your unclean teeth is the one recommending how to keep them clean, which would actually make him loose business.

Now I'd appreciate if, with that comment, people don't just assume I'm some conspiracy theorist. I'm simply trying to be logical here, and there is a logic in that statement. It is also true that medical and pharmaceutical companies profit off medical drugs and vaccinations; now tell me, who is it that tells you vaccinations are necessary? By whom is s/he paid? It is a well documented fact that doctors running clinical trials would see the results that they expected to see. Some suggest they were paid by pharmaceutical companies to do so. There was corruption in the process. Therefore it is now standard for clinical trials to be run blind. The overseeing doctor does not know who is on the drug being tested and who is taking a placebo. S/he records everything as s/he actually sees it, not as s/he thinks s/he sees it. Tests more accurately pinpoint side effects now.

Vaccinations have become huge though, and I must ask, who benefits from the usage of vaccinations? It's the very people who are telling you they are necessary. I'm not saying there is undeniable corruption there, all I'm saying is there's a possibility.

Anyway, food for thought. I think I will have to discuss the matter with my guru. Assume nothing, question everything, challenge the opposition.
