The Floyd Files
Just a drop box for my various interests, too many of which to list here.
Life in the days of COVID 19
Just wanted to note that I'm still active here, though not as involved. This has become a pleasant little game of faux capitalism that keeps my mind focused and grounded.

I forgot that Gaia provided a blog. Haven't touched this in 11 years!

Just killing time during the Halloween event. Collecting candies and the same old crap.

It's a pity so many folks including the guy who put me onto Gaia back in '03 have vanished. Oh, well.

Someone has taken an interest
I see someone has attempted to hack this account tonight.

Silly poser. Your ISP has been logged. And my password has been changed and lengthened.

Go find someone else to rip off. You'll never get anything out of this account.

Covered in white
I spent part of my two week downtime this year cleaning everything out of my home office space (a spare bedroom no longer needed for family) and proceeded to tear out the carpet and paint the walls. This has been the first coats of paint the room has seen in 25 years, so the drywall took two full coats of primer to look respectable.

Painting can be fun. Even therapeutic. It makes the space feel a bit lighter. Even the new shade of white has brightened the space with the same amount of wattage in the light bulbs.

With the new area rug in place and the furniture replaced, the office is ready for my return later in the month.

I'll be in San Diego starting Tuesday night. The drive to Comic-Con will be a simple push in the early evening hours. I'm planning on about 8 hours, but will most likely pull into Escondido for the first night. From there, it's a forty minute drive down I 15 to the Town and Country. I'm not looking forward to the trolly system again. But their prices are hard to beat during the con and tennis season.

See you at the Gaia booth!

Counting my blessings...
It's nice to be able to find some easy and significant things to give thanks for here on the final day of 2006.

The weather has been better than average, and even when it was bad, I managed to have a fun adventure this week despite the unsettled air between storms.

The new MacBook Pro is working perfectly and far better than I had hoped, even under battery power! Today I did a drag and drop of my last legacy software, AppleWorks 6, on the hard drive and fired it up after stripping all OS 9 related code. It worked.

Should anyone need old AW files opened and converted to something else, I can handle it. It never hurts to have another revenue path when you're in business for yourself.

And my business is going fine. That's the best thing to give thanks for. That, and my good health.

It's time to close out the holidays and get back to work. I've had enough of this season.

Twenty Eight Hundred Dollars Later...
Or how I stopped worrying and bought a new laptop.

Today I had to take a meeting with one of my biggest clients. I was concerned that this would be one of those meetings where I would have to hear the 'kiss of death' speech; that they would not need my services any longer. Instead, I was received warmly and handed a hefty $2000 year end bonus check that I was not expecting!

A fever of sorts came over me after I got in my car and aimed it to the credit union. An arguement I had been having with myself for months now over when I should s**t or get off the pot about buying a replacement for my aging G3 iBook. My plan was to hold out for at least one more speed bump of the MacBook Pro line then pounce on an end-of-life model.

Then it hit me. About the best I would hope to save would be around $400 plus my user group discount. That end-of-life discount is a lot of money, to be sure. But with a cashed bonus check and a few hundred dollars out of my own savings, a 15" MacBook Pro was well within reason. After all, I'm selling the G3 iBook for a solid return. And the gained productivity is well worth the investment!

And the new glossy screen is to die for! Such a nice change for my field work. So lush and deep. Several folks who saw me out with it tonight were green with envy!

All in all, this is one of the finest Christmas bonuses I've ever treated myself to.

A Festivus for the rest of us...
It's a Festivus miracle of sorts. Everything has gone quite well for my small business this year. In the past, I was concerned over not being able to sustain my business plan due to flakey clients. But the clients have been rock steady and business has boomed thanks to the crappy gas prices throughout the year.

I'm considering my yearly price increase structure with care. None of my overhead has gone up so much that I really need to raise prices. I've always budgeted my income wisely, setting aside exactly what was needed for taxes and future investments.

The next big investments will be a pro D-SLR and a MacBook Pro sometime during the second quarter of 2007. After playing with my two digital cameras, I'm finding that having that extra service can be of greater value than just sitting in my office doing the image editing.

Four months later and I just now find out about it...
Gezus!

I just now found out that a fat turd named Scott Kurtz won a sympathy Eisner award for his weak kneed PvP webcomic.

Excuse me while I throw up some more! burning_eyes

And to add insult to injury, the lard bucket is now a GoA at the '07 San Diego ComicCon!?!

Enjoy yourself, Lard Lad!

Another fine example of why Gaia sucks.
Today I spent a moment updating an old Guild thread I created and managed. It was a registered guild thread and nothing illegal was going on in it.

This evening I found a note from a mod who felt that my Guild thread was now a Chattterbox topic.

No one bothered to ask. They just pushed years of my efforts to promote a friend's artwork off the guild area of the forum.

******** it. Trying to talk to a Gaian mod is less entertaining than talking to a rock. At least the rock may show signs of concern. evil

I'm really considering giving away my items and leaving Gaia. I'm that pissed off about this.

Some small minded people talk about not taking things personally. ******** them. When we all take things personally, perhaps we'll start to care about things enough to do something about them. cool
