Yay! We had poetry unit in L.A. a long while ago, and I had to write poetry, so I will share a few of the things I wrote.

Ballad-

The Storm
In a storm comes to stay for the night
Roaring with thunder, kids in the fright
To some this storm will be a sweet lullaby
To others a nightmare, so much they could cry
~
Delve into darkness, clouds fill the sky
Another night awake to live in this lie
Wait until morn, with birds flying high
Yet that is to long. Why, oh God, why?
~
Midnight has passed and still I'm awake
And still I lay waiting for daylight to break
A jewel of light, not seen in the air
Can't anyone help me, does anyone care?
~
Delve into darkness, clouds fill the sky
Another night awake to live in this lie
Wait until morn, with birds flying high
Yet that is to long. Why, oh God, why?
~
Still the storm roars with all of its might
The time showing end to this pain-staking night
But there's something breaking through all of the rain
A shear shread of light to bring end to this pain

2 Haikus

Tiger-
A tiger prowling
Can be a dangerous thing
Watch out for its teeth!

Stream-
Glistens in the light
A calming sound all its own
Through, a stream passes
~~~~

Acrostic
Destruction of all the empty spaces
A dull meaning for lives
Ridding us of fear, but at the same time giving it
Kind and peaceful to drift to sleep
New day awaits soon, now
Even if every new day stays dark
Still I love to say,
Sitting in darkness is a wonderful experience

Free Verse (No rhyme scheme, or sylable scheme)

The Lightning
A roar of thunder heard from far above the city
As lightning breaks its way through
A fa light streak streams across the sky
Nothing to dare stand in its way
Pillars of metal, striking from rooftops
Seem to distract it
Though the countryside towns, not so lucky
Nothing to stop the energy
If only the small chance for a tree
But without, this ground will shatter and burn
