When we took a glance at one another, your smile turned me away.
Not from fear or disgust, but only from anxiety.
I'd never known a gentle smile before; only false ones.
And there you were, sweeter than can be.
I'm standing here, waiting by the seconds.
Listening as they tick away, in a waiting patience.
I didn't think it could ever drag on quite like this,
Waiting for a person's call, or him be so gracious.
I've never had a Valentine, if that's not sad enough.
Every guy had left me, far before then.
I'd always thought of suicide, and merciless things.
But I'll lay down for you on a whim.
We've never made "love", though it's clearly shown.
We've done those things all over one another.
And even though I once pretended...
You were nothing like a brother.
I'd take any measure, just to make you smile.
A sweet person, with such a warm embrace;
Could care so much, but not quite "love"
For a small amount of the human race.
Instead, coy and selfish is how I seem.
I want to be with you, but can probably never be.
If there was anything in my heart so much...
You'd know this feeling will always be in me.
You're the last one I think of, before I go to sleep.
And the first one I dream of, just as I rise.
But I don't know if there's anything for you,
And I don't want to gobble down any lies.
I know this feeling, it is my own.
What lies in your heart, I shall never know.
I'd live for this moment, just to be yours...
But I feel, somehow, that you'd only go.
There's a small truth, in this "Valentine":
I want to be with you;
I want to be yours,
And for you to be mine.
