The techno beat flowed through her ears, down to her pounding heart as they danced. His hands on her hips and the grinding motion he made towards her filled her soul with desire for him, pulling him closer. The scent of the club; fruity cigars and marijuana filled her lungs, making her laugh out loud, and the drinks in her system made the experience only more arousing. The warmth of his hand’s and the sound of his voice singing along with the song; loudly and happily, bobbing his head from side to side along with the beat “Cause every time we touch I get this feeling, and every time we kiss I swear I can fly” he seemed crazy.
She laughed at him, loudly, and fell backward. Everything was a blur inside her minds eye. As she closed her eyes all she could see were clouds, light gray clouds, like smoke surrounding her. She opened her eyes and she was on stage. The audience was screaming her name and tossing roses at her feet as the music began.
The techno beat filed into her ears slowly this time, unsure of itself. She looked from the microphone to the audience. Then without warning she began to sing, it was almost as if she were watching someone else, standing in the audience watching a brilliant performance. But the words flowed perfectly from her very own lips.
“Forgive me my weakness but I don’t know why. Without you it’s hard to survive. ‘Cause every time we touch I get this feeling, and every time we kiss I swear I can fly” Her heart was pounding now as the beat grew, engulfing the entire room in it’s beautiful melody, flowing through her veins and making her weak with excitement. “’Cause every time we touch I feel that static, and every time we kiss I reach for the sky. Can’t you hear my heart beat so? I can’t let you go”
The crowed screamed with excitement as she hit the high not on the top of the scale, they sang along with her now. “I still hear your voice when you sleep next to me, I still feel your touch in my dreams… You make me right when I fall… ‘Cause every time we touch I get this feeling and every time we kiss I reach for the sky, can’t you hear my heart beat so? I can’t let you go, want you in my life” She caught a rose being thrown up stage as she ended the song.
Panting for air she lowered the microphone, looking from the rose in her clenched hand to the thrower. He seemed to still be enjoying the song. Someone should tell him he’s a few minutes late she would think to herself. She blinked and within a second the stage disappeared, and his hands grabbed hold of her as the song ended “I want this to last need you by my side” He pulled her close and kissed her playfully on the lips.
The touch of their lip’s produced a static shock. She looked at him for a moment then began to laugh, quite love struck at the moment.
He cocked his head to the side looking down at her hand in which was clench around a fully bloomed rose. “Where did you…. ?” He managed to say, as he backtracked his own memory. She looked down at her hand and grabbed his hand in hers and ran out the door as they switched to the next song.
She smirked a tad bit stoned, but not at all as strange as it would seem, confused about what just took place. “You gave it to me silly, don’t you remember?” He looked at her for a moment then shrugged it off. “I suppose my memory is about as good as my dancing.” He said with a laugh as he opened the car door for her.
A permanent smile took place upon her face as they drove off into the night.
The melody of love remains in a vase on her bedside table, untouched, and unaged even sixty years after this event. It’s said that if you get close enough, just barely. You can hear her singing, the melody filling your heart and soul with desire to grab hold of the precious flower. “Cause every time we touch I feel the static, and every time we kiss I reach for the sky” The melody of love lives on.
