I spent my day, Friday, job shadowing an eye doctor. I would like to be an eye docter one day, so I can help those who have the same disability as me, and to make the money to pay the bills too. How can you not feel good about what you do, when what you do is help people see the world differently everyday?
My eye doctor was like none other. Not full of talk, intellegent, a people person, all smiles. You get a strong, positive vibe off him when you see him. It was a pleasant change. He shared his limited office space with me, let me sneak about him, in his business, all day. It was a kind thing of him to do. He gladly answered any questions I had, along with answers a poor non-college-educated girl like me can understand.
Today has opened my eyes to what I'll have to deal with, its work none the less. After today, seeing what I'd be doing if I chose this career path, I still think it's well worth it.
Not only, was the eye doctor himself, kind to me and my pressence, but the office people were too. Each had their own special flavor of personality. Each one of them grand in their own way.
Tina, though I've only known her for a part in the morning, I've concluded a goofy being. She is from the UK, and travels there from time to time. Not forgetting, running into currency problems along the way. Hopefully, I can travel there, if only once, for it is one thing I wish to do.
Rebecca was a quiet, shy girl it seemed. I did not get to know her well. Shy at glance, but when a patient came, she was all smiles. She would reply when I would talk, smile, and laugh. Otherwise she kept close to herself. Which is not a bad thing either.
Linda, was the brainiac of the four. She was the one who filled me in the most on information. Mostly of the complications that can occur with the eye, along with tasteful pictures, lol. She sat there and shown me of how the eye would look on the optomap with certain problems of the eye too, answering any questions I had, fully. The books with the "tasteful pictures" were quite helpful with showing what can happen. It was a little gross and disturbing but I still am leaning toward this career choice.
Sara was the one who I got along with the most, with our personalities. We shared things like goofyness, our openness to each other. She was not afraid to talk with me. She even added me as a friend here on myspace which I thought was very sweet of her. She had her quirk that I thought was interesting. She does not eat meat, or drink milk as well, because of how the animals are treated. She informed me of the cruelty they are put under. It is sad how they do not see the mini-human inside of these animals. We also had our gossip side shine. No matter if it was how small and adorable a patient was, to a patient coughing onto a paper before giving it to them.
Today, was a rough, but well worth it day, I am left this day with new knowledge, and new friends. I wish to keep all this new found information close to use it to my advantage. An eye doctor, I shall be. That being said, I put this day to a close
