PART 7
Fumiko took her medallion and went outside. She went over to the oak tree and smelled salt water and sand, not the distinctive smell of tree leaves she had expected. She hopped onto a low branch and peered through the sparse foliage. She noticed a stretch of beautiful shimmering ocean.
“Fumiko?” Jinn called. She hopped down and saw him standing in the doorway of the house.
“Yes?” she asked walking over.
“Um…why exactly, do you have that wound? Or…err…why were you fighting?” he asked curiously.
“One does not choose to start a fight, one merely gets caught in the middle of a much larger war.” she replied cryptically.
“oh…um…then would you mind telling me about the last battle you were in?” he asked almost shyly, digging the toe of his black Zori into the soft dirt.
“No. What you are thinking of was not my last battle. I fight a war with myself every morning when I awake.” she replied, staring off in another direction and turning away from him.
“Oh. Um…never mind.” he said quickly, realizing he shouldn’t dredge up wounds, no or old, and throw salt in them. She looked over at him quizzically, the yawned, flashing bright white fangs unwittingly.
“I did not know there was a shore nearby.” she said softly, breaking the awkward silence between them.
“Really, how could you not? I mean, it shows up on all maps. It’s the Azure sea, closest to the shore of North Drizor.” he explained, looking at her like she was stupid.
“Well, excuse me for not carrying a map!” she defended harshly. “I refuse to carry anything I do not need.” she added huffily.
“Oh? So you can navigate without one then? He asked skeptically.
“Yes. It’s called ‘Animal Instinct’!”
“Yeah, right. The only animal instinct you could muster is the ability to mark your territory!” he shot back offensively.
“You, sir, (if you so are) are a filthy excuse for a mammal and are more than likely totally incapable of defending yourself. With or without a weapon!” she shot back.
“I’ll have you know I’m an excellent archer! I can shot a bottle off a pole from a100 yards away!” Jinn yelled.
“That’s pathetic! A real archer could do that blindfolded.” she yelled back, crossing her arms over her chest.
“Yeah? Well name one!” he demanded.
“Asuma Kuchiki.” she said proudly, “He could shot a man on a horse between the eyes wit enough momentum to decapitate him from a mile away. Not only that, but he could shot three arrows at once and they’d all hit their target!” she added with boastful pride, straightening her posture and smirking with self-assurance.
“Bull s**t. No one can do that, save for a superhuman legend.” he returned, also crossing his arms over his chest. Fumiko took on an angry look, putting her hands on her hands on her hips. Her tail bristled with annoyance.
“Bull s**t my a**! Maybe a normal loser could not manage such a feat, but I am sure Asuma could! I saw him do it myself!” she spat back bearing her fangs.
“So then show me. Bring him here and have him do it. Then we’ll see who’ right.” he ordered furiously.
“******** you.” she hissed, growling loudly.
“No thanks.” he replied smugly.
Fumiko spun around on her heel, still growling, and stormed away from Jinn.
“Does this mean you give up?” he called after her, smirking defiantly. She didn’t turn around, but yowled explosively, scaring several birds out from inside the trees.
