What I think about Christmas
Ok this is a song from a band called ska-p. Its all in spanish so the sng doesnt make perfect sense in english, at least in some parts. But I still wanna share ots lyrics with you all so maybe you guys can understand Jesus wouldnt want you to sit at home and eat and 400 dollar meal and give out 1000 dollars in presents instead of helping others with that money that might need it a lot more.

25, is christmas now.
We should all have a toast together,
for Ruanda, Ethiopia, India and many more places,
kids are dieing there Merry Christmas !

Christmas full of hunger and pain
the son of god is born
the mesia that guides us and shares his philosophy
No one can really understand the son of god.

My family starts singing
and the air is full of happyness
We get together and try to forget
the agony of the places where theres no christmas.

Lets sing all together facing to the vatican
so maybe they see kids are dieing of hunger
a millionarie bussiness with christians faith
Using Jesus like their saviour.

Jesus was just a normal guy
pacifist, intelectual
always defending the poor people
defending his values and against capitalism

He got crucified like an animal
defending an ideal
and the abuse of richness became the missery of human race.

It was the church who killed him
and from his death they made up a huge bussiness

The vatican is an empire who cleverly devours everything
saying they do it in the name of god.

25, its christmas now,
we should all have a toast for a revolutionary that tried to change the world
the first hippie ever born.

Christmas is a big lie !

Of course Jesus didn't want us to have the Christmas we have.

Sadly, nobody cares.

And sometimes, when you try to do something nice for others, people laugh at you. In my church we gather presents and we take them to hospitals, poor people's houses, orphans' houses and we send more presents to schools in the middle of poor provinces like Santiago del Estero.
And you know what happens? People say that we are stupid for doing so. Of course I don't give a damn, I only care that some child I have never met smiled because of our help.
I am not trying to say anything about religion, I am just saying that even though religion nowadays is thought and seen as a joke or a commercial thing, there is still people out there who help. I don't say this so that everyone comes MECHA, YOU ARE SO AMAZING. No, of course I am not amazing. I just LOVE to see children smiling, even though they might have cancer, or AIDS, or they are orphans.

I love that song too, Ska-P is a great band.

I pray that people around the world will see the suffering and help. If we cannot hope, life is over.

I wish we could change more attitudes worldwide. Even without presents for everyone, if we could improve everyone's attitude and spread that worldwide... imagine what a difference that could make.

Like, I remember reading a story (true story) about a young girl who was sold as a slave to a priest (to some small, unknown African religion) somewhere in Africa, as compensation because her grandmother got caught stealing a pair of earrings! This priest, and others like him, kept dozens of women slaves and he raped them whenever he pleased, but he was not held responsible for any of the children that he created because of it. The women worked in the fields, picking food and stuff and making clothes and whatnot for the priests, and were used - I should say, ARE used - as concubines and the children suffer in poverty with the best that the poor slaves can provide for them.

I think the best gift humanity as a whole could give itself would be a universal, SECULAR (not religious) code of ethics and morals and human rights. Just imagine it... doesn't it sound wonderful? Maybe it will really happen someday. (At least, without America taking over the world. But let's not open THAT can of worms here.)

Well... Jesus wasn't just a normal guy. Without him we wouldn't have Christmas to even think remotely about other people. o.o;
Really it's not the churches fault that people in the world are starving. And churches, regardless of denomination actually DO the most good for people who need it. =/
I'd rather a song that had lyrics about togetherness and helping people WITHOUT the bashing of other people in the process.
Jesus never blamed a particular group for the world's problems.
We're all sinners and this is part of the consequence.
