Information about Rayena Calanth's homeworld. It's legends, it's people, it's magic...it's very heart and soul.
Capital City of Annette
The city of Annette is Agaise's capital, and, obviously, is where all of its main affairs are conducted. The city is divided into five districts, four of them presided over by the duke or duchess whose city holdings are in that district, and the fith by castle.

Griffin District - Rayena Calanth's home district. Her father, Duke Thordon of Griffin's Keep, presides over this district. It's mainly residential, and is a very peaceful place. There's a numer of small businesses and one market, and one square where people can gather. The rest of it is mainly homes, many of them belonging to nobles. This district sits against one of the city walls, protecting it from the brunt of the bad weather that Annette gets on occasion.

Dragon District - An entirely residential area watched over by Duke Carlon of the Dragon Keep. This district is probably the closest thing to an area of slums that can be found in Annette. The houses are rundown and dirty, and the people here live tightly packed, some of them even in the street. The district is protected by the city's wall, which is a blessing for its inhabitants. Though the living conditions aren't the best, the streets at least are kept clear of wastes of all varieties, and law enforcement is kept up here as well as in the wealthier districts. Duke Carlon is in the middle of an on-going project to improve this district.

Basilisk District - This district is presided over by Duchess Sophitia of Fort Basilisk. The district is largely commercial, with a number of markets and squares as well as many of the buildings holding businesses of their own. Most people in this district live above their shops, if they own them, or in small houses along the city's wall. Though against the wall, Basilisk faces the wrong direction for it to be protected from the weather, though usually the winds and snows are weakened by the time they get across the city. There aren't many noble houses in this area of the city, but neither are there slums.

Pegasus District - A largely administrative portion of the city, though houses line the city wall and are interspersed with a few independent businesses. This district is watched over by Duchess Lorette of Pegasus Heights. She's a shrewd business woman, and can easily keep an eye on the administrative affairs to make sure that nothing goes awry there. She's currently trying to get more people to move into her district and set up businesses of their own to get away from being a purely administrative part of the city, with little success.

Palace District - The area around the main castle, and the palace within. All four other districts tend to blend together here. The wealthier citizens tend to live here, and those who want to seek favor at Court often come and stay near the palace for long periods of time. This district is presided over by mainly the guards of the city, though they're hardly ever needed. Not many people dare to misbehave with the eyes of the King and Queen so close nearby. It's probably the healthiest part of the city, with a little bit of everything within its limits.

After Raye
During Rayena Calanth's magical duel with Wiot Tamand and Justin Calanth, Raye began to cast a spell using strength given to her by a goddess. The spell escaped her control and annihilated Raye. Only using the power of the elements were Wiot and Raye's mage-school companions able to stop the spell from destroying everything. Wiot was warped away by the power, but Justin and the city of Annette were destroyed. Most of the buildings were completely obliterated, and only the ruins of the castle remained. The capital couldn't remain in a dead city, and it was moved to the city of Caer Daen on the western coast of Agaise, on the edge of the Bottomless Sea. The move was meant to be temporary, but became permanent later on.

Annette was slowly rebuilt, but it became much less ordered. The former sectors of the city blended into each other, and it's easy-to-defend square shape was destroyed. It was impossible to build defensible walls around such a melting pot of a city. Years had to pass until the city took on a more-or-less circular shape, and a road was built around it. It was perfectly circular, and magic was sunk into every inch of it. Its stones were even coated with a quartz that retained defense spells. This circular road was closed at the city's main gate by a pentagram design made out of the road itself. The purpose of the whole road was that a company of mages could raise it when trouble threatened, making a nearly-impassable wall around the city. The pentagram closing was to help focus their power.

Over the years, the pentagram became used for another purpose. The Mage School in Vale was destroyed in the war following Raye's death, and it had to be rebuilt somewhere; the magical road surrounding the rebuilt Annette seemed like the perfect place. So the school grew up, close to the Magic Academy that sheltered within the ruins of the palace inside the city proper. The high concentrations of mages made it even easier for the road to be raised in times of trouble, and Annette became a city that was virtually impossible to conquer. The Council that had replaced the royal family -when isn't exactly known, as the change was gradual- considered moving the capital back to Annette, but decided there wasn't enough room, with the Magic Academy taking up the space that the palace had formerly inhabited.
