(This one was for my friend and his girlfriend. Unlike the poem, their relationship is quite happy. I guess I was depressed that day.)
He stares into her eyes.
She sees the fire in his.
They hold each other, content
To feel the warmth of their bodies on a chilly night.
Their hearts fight the great fight,
They rush toward love like maddened knights
Toward the enemy's banner.
The enemies of distance and time
Present an eternal struggle.
Their minds, bodies, souls united.
Yet it cannot be love, for such an emotion,
Such an obsession,
Can only serve to teach them the one great lesson:
The enemy will eventually win.
It is only a matter of time, and
They know, but cannot accept it.
This obsession, this feeling,
Leads from ecstasy
To a point of depression.
Love is a knight, and obsession its steed;
They will both die by the arrows of reality.
Sad isn't it? Oh well, can't always have a happy ending, can we?
