The best I could find for a definition of Pacifists, by the Collins pocket dictionary and thesaurus is to pacify which mean to sooth or calm this obviously shows where the word pacifists is derived from.
Pacifist have been stereotyped to refuse violence in all situations and this might even be so, but I do not know a pacifist who do not believe a war to be more evil then the next non-warmonger. ((I know up to 13 pacifists not including my family)).
Because, violence can be as much of a personal issue as sex. Alot of people may think sex can be a more personal issue therefore putting personal issues above more global issues people may want to shield there families from sex more then violence. Also even though sex has been with the human race since the beginning violence has been a far more announced part of the human behavior, and violence is also known to be a far more common settler of problems then sex.
As a not so personal opinion war can never be justified just as killing, however in a personal view I believe that war is justified when in self defence - not retaliation however this can occasionally be a justified reason e.g. pearl harbour.
Terrorism seems to be an effective way to RAISE the point but isnt an effective way to fix the problem. Violence does scare people so being violent can scare people into helping or into submission e.g. Hitlers SS and SA scaring the German population into not starting something like a revolution against them.

No, gun owners who like using guns in an inappropriate manner, (e.g. shooting random people) lead to violence.
