So today there was a DDR tournament. I'll have it known now that I'm not that great, but my friends threatened to shoot me if I didn't join in...my they're kind... sweatdrop Anyway, I agreed...what? It's not wrong for me to want to live... ninja
So we went, and the tournament was going well. There were two different groups (or as they called them brackets) and let me just say my bracket had really bad luck. Either the songs weren't fun, or they were evil. The round which knocked me out consisted of a song I don't recall, then Sakura on Standard, immediately followed by Cartoon Heroes on Heavy. Whoever the person that rouletted that was should die. This was right after our first heavy song was A...which was equally tough for my skill-less self.
Me aside, the one person who actually got an A on CH Heavy actually went on to win the entire tourney. Anyway, he AAed everything else, and was so good, he actually won an extra round, which I didn't even know was possible to do on DDR...and he wasn't even oriental..in fact, the one oriental was actually kinda smug, and we were glad to see him get beaten.
He threw in hand motions, which is normally ok, but he did them with such....arrogance I suppose, that we quickly tired of him. Thus we dubbed him Mr. Fancy Fingers...Well, Mr. FF was against another kid, and they were playing Max 300. They're stomping the eighth notes, when suddenly there's a freeze for a second or two. During that second, Mr. FF turns to the side, flings out his arms and shouts, "What you got?!" at his opponent, before the song started up again. Which was it was all the more satisfying when his opponent came back to beat him in that song, at the end of which, he so blatantly replied to Mr. FF, "That's what I got." twisted That made us happy...and the kid proceeded to knock Mr. FF out of the tourney...
The winner was a really nice guy, had a good attitude, and got a $100 for winning. But he deserved it, because he sure earned it. He even AA on Afronova Primeval against a friend of mine, who loves that song like there was no tomorrow. I believe the champ full comboed EVERYTHING until the semi-finals. At one point, he had to do a weird position to balance himself, and when he did it, it actually ended up looking like he was posing. Magical girl heroine entry style no less, and on the last steps. It was a most comic and fitting finish.
On a side note, I guess I can't leave without putting at least a little humor in here. At one point, we dared one of the contestants to do "It's Raining Men." None of us knew the words, but we knew the chorus. So it's all quiet as they're playing, and then when it hits the chorus, suddenly 7 people start shouting out singing, "It's Raining Men...Hallelujah it's raining men..." And so on and so forth...Oh how I wish I could've seen the crowd's faces at the shock we gave them...I think the same applies for Cow Girl as well...and one other song, though I don't recall which...
All in all, it was lots of fun...all the DDRers dressed for lots of movement. And reactions to songs were always unanimous...for example, group spread relief at easy songs, and group spread groans of misery at Cartoon Heroes for Heavy right after Sakura Standard...it was great, I met a lot of people, got myself a good workout...A friend of mine from a Bio 2 class placed 2nd, and another friend, who I met through the first a few months ago, took 3rd!! So not really a funny entry like usual, but still quite fun in it's own way... mrgreen
