I awoke tonight, hot, bothered, restless....and not in the good way
Writing helps steady my mind and gives me relief, hopefully to be able to sleep again.
I had that dream again. That silent meeting of faces. We don't say anything. We just sit there on the pier, looking out to the sea as the seagulls cry out in the distance. I find myself unable to say anything to break the silence. In fact, I could swear that I was watching myself from a different angle. The sea is foggy and the waves are few and far between. The sky is white and grey, overcast. I can only see my friends faces, how they smile out at the nothing before us. They don't seem to mind the dreary scenery. Or perhaps they're seeing something I can't. Even so, the silence ends as a soft humming is heard. That sea shanty of theirs. I can't hold back my tears.
In those restless dreams of mine, I see them without failure. I see sons long gone, brothers sorely missed, good men never to return. I see only memories



Another is soon to join them....ashes to be scattered to the heartless sea......
