The Red Book
Did Alexander see through his lie? It'd only been his second time lying to his partner so it would make sense that he wasn't exactly good at it. That didn't mean he was about to come clean either. No, he was sticking to the coffee story. They both knew it was nearly impossible to crack Isaac once he'd made his mind on it. With an incredibly high stubborn streak and a huge pain tolerance, there was really only one way to get through to Isaac and that was bribery. Still, Isaac refused to let himself be bribed into admitting that he'd been hunting monsters without back up to the only person he cared about.

"Yeah, well... I like coffee," Isaac replied, shrugging off the accusation. That wasn't a lie. At this point, Isaac wouldn't be surprised if he bled caffeine but he also knew what Alexander was doing. He was giving him an opening to come clean.

His pale grey eyes narrowed as Alexander went on to insist he was tired of resting and ready to hunt again. Did Alexander even see himself? He was constantly stumbling around like a drunk man and always looked like he was on the verge of fever. Not only that but he swore Alexander's eyesight was worse lately. No. The last thing he needed was someone out there who might pass out on him at any second.

"No." Isaac hadn't meant for his voice to come out as cold as it had but it was too late now.

He took a moment to calm himself with a drink of his coffee. "You're not ready," Isaac added softly, frowning down into his cup, "Maybe in a couple more nights."
