What is reframing as a radical resilience skill
- Exploring different perspectives on a concern or situation in order to get unstuck from a perspective that is not helpful.
- Thinking about a concern or situation in new ways.
What are some ways to practice reframing
- Being in a learner mindset when we reframe.
- Asking "How can I reframe this?" or "What's another way I can look at this?" whenever we feel frustrated, confused, angry, or upset about something.
- Sometimes "What can I learn from this?" fits the situation better.
- All three questions can free us from feeling that our initial response to the situation is the only interpretation possible.
- Examining our assumptions when something happens that's different from what we expected. What did we assume would happen? What do the facts support?
