Sabrina update...
Sabrina is now 15 weeks old. That's about 3 and a half months.

People reckon the time when your child is a little baby goes really fast, but to be honest these last few months have felt like a lifetime.

Sabrina is super cute, she has chubby cheeks and long eyelashes and she is old enough now that she smiles and makes ooh and ah noises a lot, often sounds like she is trying to have a full conversation.

However, parenthood is also very full on. I get up at least once in the middle of the night every night to feed her. Last night was a good night, she had a feed at 7.30pm, went to sleep, stayed asleep when me and Taina came to bed at about 11pm, and didn't wake up till 3am. I fed her, changed her etc, got her back to bed and she slept through until 7am, when Taina got her up and fed her and entertained her out in the lounge, so it was quiet and I could get a little extra sleep.

But not every night works like that. Sometimes she needs two feeds throughout the night. Sometimes we put her down to sleep after a nighttime feed, and she wakes several times within the first half an hour because she is having trouble settling down and I have to keep getting up to put her dummy back in her mouth.

She loves her dummy, but she's not so good at keeping it in her mouth and not letting it fall out.

The fact that Taina's job only gives him part-time hours would be a bad thing under different circumstances. But it's good to have both of us at home most days to share the load of feeding, burping, changing, entertaining and also calming Sabrina down when she has a meltdown and helping her to nap.

Napping during the day is not her strong suit. She can often manage a mid-late morning nap, provided she isn't up too long beforehand and isn't overtired or overstimulated. But afternoon naps are almost impossible.

I think it is because our house gets a lot of afternoon sunlight, a great thing normally but it makes it very bright for her to sleep.

Jess managed to get us a blackout curtain. It's good, but it doesn't cover the whole window in the bedroom.

Usually to make the afternoon nap possible, me or Taina has to hold her and rock her in our arms. Fine at first, but having to sit still for an hour with a sleeping baby in your arms is not ideal, especially now she is over 6 kg.

But overall? Sabrina is amazing. Parenthood is the steepest learning curve you can ever face, but I am glad I have a daughter.

I don't have much time for writing, as I suspect Sabrina is about to wake up soon.

But I will try...really I will...to update more.
