Chapter 43:

A few days pass and things around the ship go back to normal. While Arthur still was a bit unsure what to do about Kells. Forcing his old Captain to work bellow seemed good enough. However this meant there was now a missing link in the chain of command and Arthur wasn't sure who would be able to fit the roll. Even temporary he wasn't sure who would be able to cover the work load. Danse and Nate had returned at least so that gave him some extra people. Danse did alright, covering small task and Nate helped where he could. But neither one really had enough experience to replace the Captain. So far however everyone that worked under Kells seemed to just pick up the slack on their own. So maybe having him gone wasn't that big of a problem. He was just thankful his people were so well trained to handle just about anything and everything that was handed to them. Sara made sure to visit Cade so he could keep an eye on her shoulder. Other then getting shot she would be fine and she would have a new scar to show for it. It would still be awhile before she would be able to lift anything heavy. She turns her head in time to catch Danse. "Everything alright, I heard you got shot.." She smiles at him and nods. "I'll live, thanks to our good doctor here." Cage flushes a bit at this as he rubs his head. "It was easy to take care of, the bullet hadn't gone far."

Danse was glad that she was alright. He hadn't gotten much of a chance to know her. But Arthur loved her and she had a rather interesting personality. Her stomach hurt a bit, she had a good idea what that was. "Thanks for the check up doc, I'm good to go?" He nods his head at her. "You're healing well enough, just take it easy for awhile." She turns as Danse follows after her. "Nate wanted to thank you, for before at Quincy." She rubs the back of her neck. "No worries, where is he now?" Danse blinks as he looks up. "He was here a moment ago, I think he said something about his armor..." He wonders off to go find him and she chuckles a bit. She heads for her new room, she had so little so it wasn't like she had to move much. She heads for the bathroom before laying down. "F*ck nature...with a stick..." At least it was always quiet in his room, the old desk fan was quietly made a creaking sound. She had long gotten used to it as she lays on her back, pulling her legs up. She stays this way for a bit, almost falling asleep when the door opens. She blinks and turns her head. Arthur had his face buried in some papers. "Need help?" He jolts a bit as he looks at her. "Just some minor work, are you okay?" She nods at this as she lays her head back. "Give me a few days..." He goes quiet for a bit. "Oh..." His brows knit a bit. "Do you always have problems with...that. Or is it because of what happened?" "Drugs, mostly the drugs they gave me. Hey it works, I'm not about to complain."

She tilts her head a bit as he walks over to her. "Need anything?" She gives him a small smile. "Nah, so what's the news on your...Captain?" He sighs a bit as he sits down, going over the different forms of papers he needed to take care of. "He isn't pleased, but I honestly could care less. He can stay on base until he gets it into his head he's wrong..." It still bothered him a bit his own Captain was acting like this. "The man are taking care of the slack for the most part." She lays her hands on her stomach as she looks at him. "You really don't have a replacement do ya?" He sighs deeply as he pours himself a glass of whisky. "No, so it can't hurt to start working on that. Thing is I'm just not sure who could fill the space, even temporary." It wasn't like he didn't have the people. He just wanted to make sure he picked the right person for the job. It wasn't like Kells wasn't respected. But it seemed just as of late he was speaking his mind on matters he shouldn't be getting into. Arthur lets out a deep sigh as he leans his chair back. "What do you think?" She blinks at this a bit, but after a minute she shrugs. "Honestly, maybe you should sit down with the guy and find out what the hell crawled up his butt.." Arthur lets out a deep chuckle at this as he takes another drink. "Alright, might as well give it a shot, he might have had enough time to think things over." She lets out a small giggle. "It makes it sound like you put the guy on timeout or something, young man, go to your room and think about what you did." Arthur rises his brow at this as he moves over to her. "This is my room." She only laughs more. "I wasn't talking to you, God never mind. Sarcasm is lost on you."

He just smiles down at her as he leans in and kisses her. She smiles at this as she places her hand on his cheek. "So does this mean I get to ground you?" He rolls his eyes at this. "No." She snaps her fingers at this. "Darn, so no surprise sexy times?" She watches his brows rise at the idea and she starts to laugh again. "See, there's an up side to this..." He rubs the side of his head lightly. "This is highly unfair you know?" She shrugs her shoulders at this, it was a tiny bit unfair. But it was still slightly enjoyable. "Yeah, fair enough...go back to work I'll leave you alone now.." He kisses her again before returning his table and getting back to work. After a few minutes of silence he turns back to her. "What should I say to Kells about...this?" She wasn't really sure as she rubs the side of her head. "I..don't really know, it seems slightly out of place for him to question your choices. Maybe something else is going on that he's not talking about." He nods at this as he slowly stands, looking down at her once more. "I'll go have a word with him, you sure you don't need anything?" She waves her hand at him. "Go I'll be fine, stop worrying so much.." He turns and leaves the room, it was quiet again as she lets out a low sigh. "I would kill for a TV though...or video games..." She lets out a low groan as she covers her eyes and just relaxes. She really didn't feel like moving at the moment. She really did wish this sort of thing didn't bother her as much as it did. But it was a small price she had to pay.

Arthur had a good talk with his Captain. Kells hadn't meant to go off the way he did. The base looked empty now that Prime had been removed. A small team was still working on the left over nukes. It took a lot of care to make sure they were disposed of and not leak out more radiation. Plus they could blow if anything moved them wrong, so there was that as well. Arthur returns to the ship with his Captain. They would both go over the idea of a replacement. While Kells wasn't thrilled over the idea Arthur just wanted to make sure he was covered just in case anything did happen to him. Kells only had a small handful of people he trusted in the control room, so it wouldn't be to hard to pick someone out. He returns to his room to see his wife hadn't moved an inch. She had found a book at least. It was a bit boring, but it was something to do as she turns her head. "Welcome back.." He tilts his head to the side. "You hadn't moved?" She looks down a bit. "No...." She hated the feeling and tried to move as little as possible. "You move when you got something crammed up your hole, it feels...weird...and rather unpleasant.." He makes an odd face at this as she points at him. "Hey, you asked." "I did, remind me to never do it again." She makes some room for him so he could sit neck to her. "Are you quiet sure there's nothing I can do?" She gives him a small smile, bless this man for trying. "Arthur I'm fine, really, I am allowed a few lazy days right?" He hadn't consider the idea. He had told her that if she needed time off to just do so. He didn't want people to overwork themselves.

"But hey if you need someone to take care of that pile of papers you got, I'm your lady." She slowly sits up as he nods, splitting his work in half. Might as well let her lend a hand, he trusted her now. She moves slowly as she sits down, looking over the different reports he had spread out. Most of it was simple stuff that didn't require to much work. He hands her something to work as they got through everything in a comfortable silence. There was a lot of math to go through as well with all the stocks of ammo they had, along with food and other items. "Ehh, math...I feel like I'm in school again.." She sighs a bit, at least she still remembered a good chunk of it. Arthur just lets out a soft chuckle. "If it's to hard..." "Done..what, oh no, I just never enjoyed it.." He blinks as he takes the paper. She was faster at this then he was. "I took algebra in school, you know the whole x and y crap. Took me awhile to understand it all, but I guess even now it mostly stuck with me..." He just blinks at her a bit as she feels herself blush. "Heh.." He leans back a bit. "Alright, I understand you had an education, which is rather rare. What was so bad about it?" She rubs the back of her head. "Besides getting bullied, feeling stupid and all that, take a wild guess..." He rises his brows at this. "I wasn't a smart kid growing up, I was dead awful at spelling, I hated having to read out loud because I stumbled over my words. It wasn't that fun for me, teachers were never much help and going home to a parent that wished you they could replace you didn't help..." He frowns at this a bit as he shakes his head.

It was still hard to wrap his mind around how her mother treated her. "So I started reading more, had to take a few extra classes, but I did alright for myself. I had a lot of help from an old science teacher. I don't remember his name anymore but he helped me a lot.." He leans his chair back. "Science?" She gives him a small smile. "Oh you know, mostly how life works, plants, animals, the basic brake down of how things are made...that sort of thing. The human body, bones, all the stuff inside of you..." He had read a few books like that when he was younger. He used to find that sort of thing fascinating. "But you get the idea..but I think for most of my last few years of school I spent it reading...a lot.." He smirks at this as he pushes the last of his papers off to the side as she does the same. "It does sound strange, to spend all that time learning stuff I mostly have forgotten about." She gives him a small shrug. "But I still remember the pointless stuff, which is oddly my strong suit." He rises as he walks over to her, kissing the top of her head. "What you know is never pointless." She turns her head up to look at him. "Even all the crap I know about D&D, because I swear I almost bored you to death with that.." He lets out a small laugh, while he didn't understand a good chunk of it. It was still interesting to watch her light up when she spoke. "I may not understand it, but you do, and that's good enough..." She slowly gets up after awhile, turning her back a bit until it popped.

"Good to know..." She chuckles as she turns the other way. "Ohh, there is one thing I got from my teacher..that might be in my old room still." She blinks a bit still wondering if her place was still there or if it had been cleaned out by now. "Huh, anyways, he gave me a small jar with a scorpion in it, you know before the rads turned then into giant death machines, just a tiny thing that had been placed in formaldehyde..." She lost him again, judging by the look in his eyes. "It was pre-war stuff that was used on bodies..." "Why did you have a non-radiated scorpion in a jar?" She gives him a small shrug. "I thought it was cool, he had other insects, but I picked the scorpion...what I liked it..." He pinches the bridge of his nose, she really was odd at times. "I like odd things..." "Yes I gathered that..." He wraps his arms around her as she leans into him. "So any plans for the New Year, besides get shitfaced drunk?" She smirks at him a bit. He never really bothered with the New Year, some people celebrated it. "I don't normally do anything for the New Years, never saw much of a point.." He was being honest with her as she nods. The last few years she just either went to bed or played Animal Crossing to bring in the New Year. "Yeah I never went out much, living in the city, it wasn't that safe to go out. Even when I moved into a smaller town I just stayed in my home." A part of her still wanted to ask if they bothered with Christmas, but she got the feeling the answer was no. Not like pine trees were a thing anymore thanks to the fall out. She shivers when she felt him kiss the side of her neck.

"Now I live on a ship, it's one hell of an upgrade." He smiles at this as he holds her in his arms. It didn't seem like he was willing to let her go anytime soon. She still rather enjoyed the mix of whisky and cigar smoke that always seemed to linger on him. As well as whatever he used to wash himself with. "Well at least this year we can celebrate with a bang~" It takes him a minute for him to catch what she meant before he lets out a hard laugh. "I'll hold you to that.." She just wiggles her brows at him, she'd be over her monthly visitor by then. "I don't think I ever spent the New Years naked before, ohh this is going to be rather enjoyable I think.." Look like he was on bored with the idea. Then again anything involving her with as little clothes as possible he was more then okay with. "Though I imagine I should stop teasing you now, it's hardly fair.." He just hugs her tightly as he ends up kissing her. "I can wait..." She blushes deeply as she stays put. "Okay mister romantic, now if you don't mind, I'm going to pay a visit to the bathroom..." He blinks as he slowly lets her go. "Oh...right.." He was still a bit uncomfortable talking about it. "Don't worry I won't leave anything behind.." No need for him to lose his poor mind anymore then what was necessary. She smiles as she turns and heads off for a minute or so to use his bathroom. He shuffles a bit but removes his coat. He was starting to feel hungry as he turns his head. "Do you want lunch?" There wasn't an answer at first. "Sure, bring whatever." He leaves the room to get them something to eat.

She wasn't picky, so he just gets a hold of two bowls of noodles and some Nuka-Cola. The sugar seemed to help her relax so he made sure to keep that in mind. The mass hall was mostly quiet. A few people had gathered for a late lunch. Other's had mostly gone back to work for the day. He makes his way back to his room, setting everything down when she came out. She smiles at the bowls as she slowly sits herself down. "Ohh noodles, they smell good too~" She takes a bowl and a spoon and starts to eat. It had an odd flavor to it, but it wasn't that bad. He sits by her as he eats his own lunch. "Sometimes we get noodles from Diamond City. From what I'm told a broken robot makes them...but no one has any idea where it gets the noodles." She looks down a bit and nods. "Oh right, I saw him the last time I was there, he only says like one thing in Japanese 'Nan-ni shimasho-ka', which I think is just may I take your order. I might be wrong, it's not like I'm good with other languages. Hell I have a hard enough time with English..." He licks his lips as he looks at her. Japanese culture had been lost over time as well as most culture. "I'm surprise you know that much.." She just lets out a low laugh. "It's...I guess it's hard to explain, but I do know somethings outside of just American history. Or at least what passed for history..." He just nods a long to this, but decides to let it go.
