Poems of the Froggy Queen
Spilt Cup
I've held your cup, before
Someone poured something sweet scented into it, and I was enraptured by it
Drunk on love and song, I was whisked away someone beyond my home and into the great abyss
In there, I found all judges stacked against me, all witnesses bribed and all work slave labor
You may spin together a piece of fabric with golden thread and intricate design
But I've held your cup, before
I've been down in the valleys of hell hand in hand with the devil, seen the twisted dance of his minions, let him lead as I closed my eyes and blinded myself
Sweet words will pull at old strings in my heart, and hammer against the walls I've build
Some may even ake holes in my resolve, where you may peer at the beauty that lays within my temple
But men do not tread easily here, nor do the walls crumble at a mere song
Oh, I've held your cup before
Heard bells toll and angels sing all in the name of love, for some sick game where we play with each other's hearts until one gets bored or the other takes out a knife
And cuts away the fat of the pig suckling at the water in the garden
I am not swayed, nor do I drink anymore
I keep my smile warm and my knife sharp; I am brave enough to be kind
I am sharp enough to know when I'm being toyed with
There is no inch of my soul that has not been tempered, and I've discarded the cup
Baby Buddha did not know he would find enlightenment beneath the tree
I can claim naivety no longer
I know what this is, my walls are high and what holes you've made are windows into the mighty castle I've built
The gates are locked
All you have is your cup, empty at the front door and on the ground
My hands are clean
