The Underground Archives Of Kyo
This is an archive of my experiences on Gaia Online, where I talk about friends, forums, RPs, stuff that happens in chat, et cetera. I try to update this often. (Key word is try. lol)
Quest Log: The House
Remember when I added a particular genre of entries to my journal called IRL Tales? Well, that worked out so well for me, that I've decided to add another segment to my journal. I call this Quest Log, and will detail the development of my Quest game about Rosario and I.

I'm happy to say that I've got most of the important parts for the first area out of the way. The first area is Kyo's apartment in Aekea. Or, Ike City, as I will call it for copyright purposes. (Though I know Hool and I technically live in Durem now, I always remembered my original home in Aekea.)

In this area, Kyo is looking for things in the house to inspire him. As the player, you have to look at those five items, until Kyo is finally inspired enough to continue making his game. The first one is rather simple. There's a trap-themed magazine in Kyo's room, which can be read for inspiration. You'll also notice that Kyo also has a bottle of pueraria pills in his room, just like how I take pueraria IRL. (I'm so glad to see the subtle effects come back after so long.)

The living room is where the TV is. When Kyo gets a hold of the remote, he'll set it onto a high-brow Public Access channel. Though, when playing as Rosario, he'll set the TV to Easton News, a propaganda show based off of CNN. He says he "loves how demonic it is". (Rosario originally wanted to make this joke about Fox News, but I changed it, as Fox is too easy of a target. And channels like CNN are doing far more harm comparatively.) Kyo and Rosario don't like each other's picks, and are always trying to change the channel back.

Either way, you can pick up the phone as Kyo, and get a call from Lock. After an awkward conversation, Kyo is inspired a bit more.

There's also a soap in Kyo's bathroom that inspires him. As you can tell, I was running out of ideas for this part quickly.

I incorporated a little part in this inspiration hunt that needed Rosario in it. At one point, Kyo notices one of his keys is inside the pipes of his sink. He tries to get it out with a wrench, but Rosario's fox familiar takes it from him. Kyo needs Rosario's help to get it back. So now, we can switch to him, and pet the fox to get the wrench back. The fox will drop the wrench, and return to its plane. Then, you can give the wrench back to Kyo, so he can use it on the pipe.

Once you have the key back, you can gain access to Kyo's closet. There's a poster of a trap in there, which serves as inspiration. Not only that, but there's a Kyo-exclusive tool in there. It's my pendulum, which can be used to hypnotize people.

There's also some instructions on how hypnosis works. It only works on those who are willing to do what is suggested to them. You can make someone do a funny dance, but only if they wanted to dance in the first place. I think this hypnosis mechanic for Kyo will be a rather interesting one, as you almost have to read someone's mind to figure out what to make them do.

Like later on, I'm planning a part where you can enter a church. And there's this priest preaching against homosexuality. However, Kyo knows from experience that the most homophobic priests tend to be secretly gay themselves. So, Kyo can hypnotize him to become "a raging homosexual" in front of everyone. Everyone thinks that he changed his orientation. But Kyo simply states, "I didn't change anything. I just made him come out of the closet about it."

Either way, Kyo's first display of hypnosis is in his kitchen. He can hypnotize a mouse he's trying to get rid of, but only if he's holding some cheese. Kyo sees that the mouse wants the cheese, but is too scared to get it. He simply hypnotizes the mouse to really want the cheese, and soon the need for cheese overrides its basic sense of fear. It will go wherever Kyo follows, as long as he's holding the cheese.

You can then wave the cheese over a mousetrap in the bathroom. The mouse, desperate for the cheese, will run towards it, and get caught in the mousetrap. Kyo is inspired, having seen a mouse get caught in a "trap".

Once you have all 5 inspirations, it's time to go back to the laptop, and continue making your game. A cutscene depicts Kyo working on it vigorously, but eventually having to go to bed.

When he wakes up, his laptop has been stolen. The perpetrator is a rival trap, who I will be calling "Archie the Archnemesis" in this journal, so I don't risk him and his posse trying to censor me again. But either way, Archie leaves a note, telling Kyo that his loyal fanbase has stolen the laptop to get rid of Kyo's free speech online. Our green-clad protagonist isn't going to take this lying down. So now, he and Rosario set off on a quest to get Kyo's laptop back from Archie.

Kyo says they need to go to the Lizard Mobile, my car from my early days of Gaia. And I'm planning for the next part to involve getting fuel for the Lizard Mobile, or something like that.

The first part of the game had rather low stakes, as it was just an introductory part, with a rather easy inspiration puzzle. Since this puzzle requires Kyo to look at things, this part was a little too Kyo-centric for me. There was only really one part where Rosario was needed. But as the game goes on, I want to give Rosario more to do. He's our game's mascot and titular character, after all.

Rosario did suggest a secret ending he wanted to include. Though I was reluctant, I accepted it, just to get Rosario involved in the game. His input matters. I can't give away what the secret of this ending is, but I can tell you how to get it. You have to get Rosario super drunk for this secret ending. 18 demon beers are scattered throughout the game, and Rosario has to drink all of them to be at max drunkness.

Perhaps I should explain what demon beers are for a second. It all started when I was adding contents to Kyo's fridge in the kitchen. There's stuff I'd normally eat, like cheese, soymilk, and frozen pizzas. Though I wanted to add beer to the fridge, as Kyo is established in the Demon Pub chatroom to be a heavy drinker. Of course, I was constantly wondering, "If Kyo is under 21, how did he get his hands on alcohol? Nobody would be legally able sell it to him."

I eventually answered that question with another question. "Where does Kyo get alcohol primarily?" It wasn't the human world, but the Demon Pub, most likely in the demon realm, away from human regulations. Dino Toru doesn't care what the drinking age is on another world. Everyone can drink in the demon realm. We can thank Rosario for introducing our protag to such a place.

But of course, there was another problem. Could Kyo even tolerate beers from the demon realm? It was established that Rosario can't eat human world food, or else he gets sick. And in bad cases, he goes into comas, and loses memories. So what about Kyo, and stuff from the demon realm?

My answer was, Kyo never eats food from the demon realm, as it could potentially kill him. However, he can still drink a beer from there. And though it may be a normal beer for Rosario, Kyo will get completely drunk from a single can.

Either way, that's pretty much it for now. The apartment could use a bit of polish before I get started on the next part. Most of the rooms still don't have descriptions, and most objects still need descriptions from Rosario's POV. But until then...

Be Right Back, World!
