REIN

- Full name: Rein (later Rein Ghaenor Exelaire)
- Age: 13
- Residence: Cappelone*
- Occupation(s): assassin

APPEARANCE:
- Hair colour: Black
- Eyes colour: Grey
- Height: 138 cm
- General appearance: Long, straight, pitch-black hair, usually done in half-up-do. Very petite, pale-skinned, with soft, big eyes. Generally poker-faced, very demure. Wears a lot of classic lolita style coordinates with lots of frills and ribbons. Has pointy ears.

SUMMARY:
Rein was born to Chuurin clan, an exiled royalty who found refuge in Cappelone and devoted their lives to the king or queen of the country since then. She was trained to be assassin since childhood, and performed her first meeting when she’s only 3.

At age 4, Rein managed to run away from home and was taken to Rins’s temporary residence. He’d been raising her since then, with a little help from Recht. She became attached to him, and he grew fond of her, taking himself as her “father”. When she became more emotionally matured, Rein decided to conceal her growth to keep him as is.

She’s an accomplished assassin in spite of only performing a few professional duties. With Rins’s help, she managed to continue receiving assassin trainings without having to perform any mission until she’s ready. Her attachment made her hide the fact that she’s long ready to return to her professional life, but she later conceded to greater need and became assassin when Rins officially returned to the kingdom.

PERSONALITY:
Quiet, level-headed, observant.

Rein is extremely silent. She only speaks when situation calls for words, and is very concise in her speech. This derived from her original family’s tradition to reserve speech, as it is perceived as unneeded for her profession. She only became verbally active at age 6, and had been developing better speech pattern since then. Later in her mid-teen, both Rins and Eoin merited her to have been a ‘better speaker than the king’.

She’s a much more level-headed counter-part of Rins in emotional term. Her observant nature gave her great understanding in human feelings, and therefore she’s well aware that Rins didn’t really see her as a woman. After their official engagement when she’s aged 14, she continually reminded him that she’s “not [his] daughter”.

Although seemingly mysterious due to her silence, Rein is very honest and even sharp at times, and she sometimes teases people with her serious expression. She rarely gets angry or upset, and would face her jealousy coolly.

Unlike the male characters, she never displays her intelligence; her mindfulness only comes to attention when she silences the two with her speeches. Her body ages much slower than normal human, therefore she seems like barely growing from year to year. Although she never mentioned this in public, she always wishes for “more mature body” (and she did once mention that she thought Rins didn’t want to touch her because she’s flat LOL).

HISTORY:
Chuurin clan used to be the ruler of country Zana, until they developed assassin skills. This caused uprising in Zana, and Chuurin clan was exiled in the end, while the current royal family took over. Cappelone welcomed the clan to their country, and they vowed to devote their lives to the ruler of Cappelone. They’re discreetly integrated to the military system, but their existence is always concealed from public due to the rather inhuman nature of their skills.

The original Chuurin clan was fairy, thus their heightened senses. However, after they mingled with human, the fairy nature barely existed anymore. Rein is the first Chuurin in centuries to carry out the trace, as evidenced by her ear shape. She was therefore arranged to become the successor, but this right was taken off her following her escape. She kept this concealed from Rins to avoid his anger, but eventually disclosed it on the year of their marriage.

With her family having high hopes on her, she was trained much more severely than anyone in the family. She came to conditions where she killed people in sight. She tried to escape numerous times but was always captured. Eventually, with Recht’s help as an oracle, the king devised a plan, and she managed to escape during the birth of her brother. She was taken to Rins’s residence which was given by the headmistress.

After she’s settled, Rins approached her family to persuade them to let her continue the training with more human conditions, and to refrain from sending her off to missions as practice. The clan was reluctant, but agreed because they’ve vowed devotion to the king. Rins, however, took Rein’s father—the current clan’s caretaker—and revealed that he’s going to marry her in time and would not like an inhuman queen. Taking the news delightfully, Rein was welcomed back in trainings, but she remained in Rins’s residence for “human lessons”. Rins taught her political science, human affinity, speech, manners, and history. (Most of the time, he just pampered her and made clothes and foods for her.)

When she’s 13, she was instructed to go (and persuaded Rins to let her participated) on a grand war with Rins, Eoin, Recht, and Liara, where she met more people and enlarged her social circle. She made new friends and became a person outside of Rins. However, she was terminally injured. Upon her recovery, nearly a year later, Rins eventually proposed to her, but held off the wedding.

After her recovery, she returned to her own house and to her real profession.

STORY:
Recht’s mother, before her death, gave Rins her last premonition about the identity of his eventual wife. Refusing to have his feelings dictated by fate, Rins dismissed this, but would later keep an eye on her through Recht’s help. However, after knowing her daily life and how her family treated her, Rins felt sorry for her and decided to take her as his pupil, in hope they’d develop different kind of relationship thereafter. Rein wasn’t aware of this premonition until Rins’s proposal.

Most of the time, Rein spent her time at home and knew only limited people: Rins, Eoin, Maev, and Recht. However, she habitually “follows” Rins everywhere (which is a nice word for “spying”) (which is a nice word for “stalking”), and she’d later learn about Rins’s feelings for headmistress, Eoin, and Maev.

She decided to keep her knowledge to herself for years. But when they have a fall-out when Maev made a move on Rins, she told him everything she knew (non-begrudgingly, but she did yell on Maev, which was big for her). She let him take a break from their relationship to figure out how he really felt about her. Soon after this took place, he received notification that his past lover, the headmistress, passed away, and he fell into depression.

During this time, Yael, Rein’s best friend, broke all his rules and confronted the king, demanding him to make up his mind. Rins argued by mentioning parental duties he did for her throughout their time together, saying his perception towards her was inevitable given their history. Yael conceded, realizing that Rins wasn’t deliberately being fickle. However, after talking to Vernal and several months of deliberation, he eventually proposed her again. They got married on the journey to a war, when she was 17. Following Cappelonian wedding tradition to attribute the bride with a marriage name, she was given the name “Ghaenor”, which meant “the shadow of the sun”.

RELATIONSHIPS:

- Rins Invictus Exelaire:
Rins had been raising Rein since she’s 4, in hope of developing non-romantic relationship with her. Rein loves him for introducing her to a gentler side of life, and for treating her as a human. He didn’t really consider Rein’s feelings for him as romantic (more like, father-daughter fondness—he’s a little delusional like that), but he became aware of the severity of her feelings after he proposed to Rein during his emotional outburst upon seeing her recovered. After years of only seeing her as “daughter”, he became terrified of developing romantic feelings for her and therefore denied it for years. However, seeing her maturity in facing his confusion and their break, he began to perceive her as a real person, and slowly let himself to love her. (Albeit rocky, since he still apologized every time they kiss, even after they’re married.)

- Rechter Quartlin: During the first year, when Rein was still conditioned as assassin and tried to kill people all the time (including Rins), Recht was there to contain her attacks, as well as protecting her from her clan. He’s the one who provided escape routes to ease her escape. Recht is quite attentive to Rein, although he rarely displays it. He admires her intensity in loving, and continuously convinces her that his mother’s premonition will become true. During the fall-out, Recht was the one who encouraged Rein and snapped Rins back to senses.

- Eoin Gallead: Eoin and Rein have a little complex relationship. In the beginning, Rein didn’t really consider his existence (which is natural, because Eoin is a bedbug), and Eoin didn’t really think of her much since they barely talked in spite of the two’s always around Rins. Most of the time, Rins separates their quality times: Rein for when he’s in jolly mood with all the cooking and innocent fun afternoons, Eoin when he’s depressed and wanna be slightly wicked. However, when Eoin became Rins’s councilor (the year before her recovery) and Rein became Rins’s fiancé, they started to pay more attention to one another. Although they still remain reserved, they’re aware of each other’s affection to the king. She correctly accused Eoin of thinking he loves the king better than she does, but she didn’t prolong their arguments. Eoin is slightly scared of her post-recovery because she’s much wittier than he thought she is, and he’d never been good at confrontation. However, through their low-key rivalry, Eoin and Rein didn’t harbor hard feelings for one another, because they know how much each other means to the king. They tend to keep their affiliation professional and refrain from talking about their feelings. (When she’s mad, Rein will call Eoin “My Lord” because this terrifies him greatly… for no particular reason.)

- Maev Capitolina: Maev used to think of Rein as an extension of Rins, but she took care of her when Rins was not around. Rein knew of their affair prior to her engagement, but she didn’t take this into consideration at all. Only after Maev made a move on Rins when they're already engaged did she display her anger (but not about the previous affair).

Like Rins, Maev also saw her as Rins’s kid. She tried to treat her as a comrade after Rein’s recovery, but was haunted by her feelings for Rins. However, after their marriage, Maev became more accepting and called truce to Rein, stating her intention to ‘actually become friends and sisters’. Rein, gratefully, accepted the proposal. Although the two never became really close, they treated each other with respect and camaraderie.

- Liara Felicis: Liara noticed Rein’s assassin training from the first time they met. Unlike in Vesticordia where assassin is military profession, Chuurin clan is the only assassin body in Cappelone and they’re highly disclosed, thus her knowledge initially alarmed Rein. After getting more acquainted, the two shared more interest in each other’s different ways of professional lives: Rein wanted to know more about how assassins should’ve behaved and Liara’s clerical responsibilities as the head of an assassin guild, while Liara was interested about the legendary family and her preternatural techniques. As they met during a journey to a war, Liara and Rein would occasionally train together, but the two never really got close on personal level. Rein, however, respects Liara’s professionalism and her maturity in conducting through her questionable relationship, while Liara cares for Rein as her unofficial pupil.

When Rins and Rein was on a break, which followed headmistress’ death, and Rins fell into depression and locked himself in his room, the worried and sleep-deprived Eoin refused eating so long as the king did so as well. Liara broke in to Rins’s room and threatened that she’d kill Rein had Rins continued to refuse food and made Eoin starved to death along. Rein coldly appreciate her brute persuasion, and the two eventually realized that they need each other to hold on to their respective lover in order for their relationships to work. So while they’re still detached to the end, Liara and Rein formed good affiliation with each other.

- Yael Martius: Yael is a knight who became Rein’s closest friend and confidante. He initially came from Pomerium, but was resolved to become a Cappelonian knight. They met on the journey to the war, and during this time, Rein was still very quiet and childish that Yael treated him like a baby, carrying her on his shoulders from time to time.

He’s a gigantic sort of fellow with short blond hair and pale eyes. Yael is highly ethical and despises things that is not conventional, and therefore was a little alarmed upon knowing Rein’s profession. He warmed up to her when he saw her devotion to the king, and ended up being her “second father”—a role he, too, enjoyed. He had a big family in Pomerium, with 13 siblings and kind parents. He took it to himself to be ‘protector of the weak’, and in spite of knowing Rein’s powers, still took Rein into consideration. He’s affectionately nicknamed “My Giant” by Rein, while he called Rein “Little One”. Rein considers him her first friend. All of her personality development outside of Rins was credited to her friendship with Yael.
