Book Reviews....mostly.
I'm a avid reader. It is my intention to write reviews on books I've read.
Demon Cycle- Peter. V. Brett
Plot:

For hundreds of years the demons have terrorised the night, slowly culling the human herd that shelters behind magical wards—symbols of power whose origins are lost in myth and whose protection is terrifyingly fragile. It was not always this way. Once, men and women battled the corelings on equal terms, but those days are gone. Night by night the demons grow stronger, while human numbers dwindle under their relentless assault. Now, with hope for the future fading, three young survivors of vicious demon attacks will dare the impossible, stepping beyond the crumbling safety of the wards to risk everything in a desperate quest to regain the secrets of the past. Together, they will stand against the night.

So it was by chance that I came across this series. The Demon Cycle is the collective name for a series of 5 books and novella's written by Peter. V. Brett. I was encouraged to read something different, beyond my normal genre of romantic novels. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to read this fantasy novel, and loved the first book 'The Painted Man' (which I'd call a page turner). I felt the characters were strong, and enjoyed reading the coming of age stories as it centres around 3 main characters (Arlen, Leesha and Rojer). The next book 'Desert Spear' was also an enjoyable read and loved it as it gave background to some of the characters from the first book. Book 3 'The Daylight War' I felt dipped, as it was all about politics and a sense of who was injured more, Arlen or Jadir?. Though you finally see Arlen settling which is awesome given what he's had to face. I'm now on book 4 'The Skull Throne' which again has being mostly politics and war planing, however there are some aspects which I've enjoyed reading such as Rojer and how he's come on, and how Leesha is finally settling for a guy from what it looks like. I'm hoping that I'll get book 5 'The Core' for christmas. I will read the books again, so I can take in more of the story and plot and not have a sense of 'this is the first time I've read a fantasy novel'. I'd say that you want something you can dabble in or take on holiday, these books would be good.
