Idea: A frog, a thief, a unique flavor of gum My default lately seems to be the Wizarding World of HP though this is next-gen based, short and hopefully sweet. Enjoy!

The Great Hall was a disorganized jumble of noise, ranging from casual conversations to heated debates. Not that that was unusual for the time of day; lunch tended to be more rowdy than the other meals, with the students fully awake and looking forward to the end of classes. Albus Severus was sitting across from Hugo Weasley while Teaddy Lupin sat to his right, his left free for the moment.

“And then,” Hugo was saying, waving a hand which clutched a Chocolate Frog trying to squirm out of his grasp. “Dad goes, 'Oi, Hugo! Just go up to the girl and tell her how you feel, nothing to it!' And Mum comes in like, 'Oh, the way you did with me?' Well, Dad gets all red in the face and- oi!”

Rose had come up from the Ravenclaw table and snatched the Chocolate Frog from her brother's grip, biting it in half as she settled next to the fuming red head While Hugo's was bright like his father's Rose's had taken on more of an auburn color, falling in not-quite curls past her shoulders. “You need to be quicker, Hugo. How else are you going to make the Quidditch team?”

The teen scowled. “Never you mind, that. Using Quidditch to steal my stuff is pretty weak, even for you.”

“It isn't stealing if you didn't want it,” Rose said, unruffled. “And considering it was half-melted you wouldn't have enjoyed it, anyway.”

There was a jostling to his left and Albus looked to see Scorpius Malfoy, sitting with his back to the table, an elbow settled on its top. “They're at it again, hm?”

“The same as usual,” Albus replied with a grin. “You're going to try out for Seeker for the Hufflepuff team, right?”

The blond nodded, his jaw more square than that of his father's but with the same high, sharp cheekbones. “Yeah. It's not really my thing but Father insists.” There's a flicker of something in the blond's blue-grey eyes but it's gone in the next moment, a small pack held in front of Albus's nose. “Want one?”

Drawing his head back and blinking to adjust his sigh Albus saw it was a pack of gum with three sticks remaining. “What kind is it?”

“That depends on you.”

Gaze flickering to the blond Albus noted the sharpness of his gaze, the twisting of his lips. It was a challenge.

“I've been flying all summer!” How Rose was able to get her brother so worked upwith a couple of words was amazing. “Dad even took time to show me some moves and-”

“Sure,” Albus said, reaching for a stick. Lunch was nearly over, his own plate showing bits of cheese and breadcrumbs and the dark-haired boy unwrapped the foil, popping the pure-white stick into his mouth. The first few chews were like chewing a piece of rubber and he started to turn to Scorpius to say so, then-

It must have been something with the mixing of saliva because a flavor blossomed, spreading through his mouth and trickling along his tongue, Albus half-closing his eyes as it sank in. “It tastes like vanilla cream- no, wait,” he murmured, continuing to chew with his mouth closed for some moments. Even as he got the words out the taste seemed to change again, melting into something else. “Like spicy lemon. Wait – gingerbread cookies?” Questioning eyes shifted to his friend, the blond's expression amused. “What is this?”

“Ever-Changing Chewing Gum. Father brought me some interesting snacks from his last trip to France and it's all the rage there.” Now that Albus was looking he could see that Scorpius was chewing a piece as well, the muscles in his jaw flexing lightly. “It was good, so I thought I'd let you try.”

Albus squirmed, a hand rising to brush his fringe over his eyes. “Thanks.”

“Hey Scorp, what'cha got there?”

Scorpius rolled his head back to look at Hugo. “Never one to miss out on snacks, are you?”

“Nope!”

As the end of lunch chime went off and they all started shuffling out – Teddy taking a bit longer with having to pack up his studying – Albus took a deep breath. Hogwarts was even better than his father and James had made it out to sound; it was definitely better than when his father and mum were going, from the stories he'd heard. While there was friendly rivalry between Houses one could slip between them as pleased, Gryffindors seen chatting with Slytherin and Ravenclaws tutoring students from other houses in their free time. It was inter-house unity at its finest and Albus couldn't imagine a time where either Rose or Scorpius approaching their table would have been met with hostility and wariness.

“Albus! You coming?”

“Oh- yeah, I'm coming!” Taking up his own bag Albus jogged to catch up with his mix of family and friends, looking forward to a brighter future than the children who walked the halls before him.
