Lanzer's Journal
I'm back! Time to get back to work!
Thanks to an amazing opportunity to take back control of Gaia Interactive, me, L0cke, and CP were able to once again contribute to Gaia Online. Basically, we hit a reset button and the company is much like where it was back in 2005, when there is no executive teams, and it's all up to us building features for Gaians.

Of course, what's different now than 2005 is that we're in a bad place. There had been lots of pushes for GCash sales, GCash item releases, and announcements related them. On top of that, many features had been neglected or had been shut down for one reason or another.

Now that we are back, we will put our immediate focus on the following:

- Find out what's wrong and make correction to past problems
- Build more events, storylines and features
- Be transparent and communicate all future plans moving forward
- Have lots of fun while doing all of the above

We will address a lot of the immediate concerns with GCash and gold with a plan moving forward, and L0cke is already hard at work designing the next event, while I just dug up a feature called "Gaia Favorites", and it's being beta tested this weekend.

We'll continue to work hard for all you Gaians. I'll start showing up during the Ask The Staff hour on Tuesdays, and share all our thoughts and ideas moving forward.

For all of you who call Gaia a home, thank you so much for being a part of our family. I hope you'll enjoy seeing all the new changes to come!

Lanzer

I'm glad you're back! I've been away for about 4 and a half years now. When I saw people on Facebook saying you were back I decided to pop back on! I'm re-addicted! heart heart

cat_4laugh First, I'd like to say how happy I am that you've come back to us~
It's always been clear how much you care about this site and it's community.
I can't wait to see what changes you make to breathe new life into gaiaonline.

Also, and I apologize if this isn't the appropriate place to state this (the topic is always ignored in ask the staffs), but I would strongly suggest you guys look into the item arranger as one of the first things which needs to be addressed.

I will shamelessly plug my own ideas, but I admit it's not a complete solution.
There are some other good suggestions in there too! Again, sorry to bother on your journal.

Welcome back! heart

Since this post was made he's already fixed so many things about journals alone (let alone the others things that have been done)
heart
You are already proving that your return is the best thing ever and I'm glad you're going to do that over and over again to show the others that aren't convinced yet the same thing biggrin

I realize you are receiving literally thousands of posts of welcome and feedback. If you ever feel overwhelmed please remember one thing.

~Every post in response to your return is a sign of our faith, trust, hope and joy. This might seem a lot to bear, but you handled it in past years just by being yourself and following your heart. Continue to do so and you'll do fine.

Welcome home.

P.S. Transparency and communication rocks!

Lanzer, I can't tell you how glad I am that you and L0cke and CP are back! I want to thank you for everything you're doing. I'm not sure it's possible to truly get back to where we were, but I trust you guys and I know we're headed in a much better direction. I'm excited to see it! heart

I'll see you around, and once again, let me offer you a heartfelt thank you!

I wish you good luck with this uphill battle. ninja

As I understand it, the infrastructure required to support such a huge and active web site does not come cheap. surprised

I haven't been on here in a long while (since zOMG went down) but I saw someone mention Gaia is being updated, zOMG might be coming back..... I logged back on in a heartbeat! Eagerly waiting for news!! Now for some tips from this oldie Gaian in case you happen to be listening.

Gaia's strong side is being able to show the community "who you are" (i.e. the customisation of various sorts) and easily interact with new and old friends, show off your art or read people's funny threads, etc. I think it's important to do upgrades to the features we all liked about Gaia that maybe feel outdated nowadays, and mobile functionality and all that is important.

Maybe think about Tumblr, FB, and Twitter's popularity about how to improve the journals and personal profiles, and how to integrate different parts of the site together (zOMG badges were great but could use an upgrade, socially shareable achievements like that are good when done the right way). What should motivate the members to try out all/most aspects of the site and not just ignore them if they don't immediately attract them?

One weak point of zOMG was that the rings couldn't be sold on the marketplace but also didn't necessarily feel like they were worth anything when you got duplicates in-game. I think that aspect should be reconsidered one way or another. Getting items in game to use for the alchemy type of stuff or sell on the marketplace = a motivator for some of the less gamer-y people to try playing the game. I personally think all items (except quest items) should be sellable.

(Other zOMG weak points.... the lack of updates, events and fixes -- and the difficulty level needs to be balanced for the middle/later areas, it got too hard too fast for solo players, and crew playing felt like a monotonous chore done for necessity rather than for fun half the time.)

This is like having something you own get tossed around and rubbed in the dirt while always thinking there's no kind of bleach to get the stains out.

Then "APPARENTLY" Lanzer comes and says "Nah let me wash that for you" and you believe him for some reason.

This is shady as hell. But, ******** I want to believe it so bad.
Don't hurt me again, L. I love Gaia enough to do what I can for it if you're actually back.
