A lot of people want to live a healthier lifestyle but do not make any changes to their diet. Do you want to fall into the latter group rather than the formal? Over-processed foods are high in trans fats and should be avoided. Foods with high trans fat contents increases your risk of heart disease. Trans fats hit your body with a two-fisted attack: first, they raise your bad cholesterol (LDL) levels, and then they lower your good cholesterol (HDL) levels.

Slow the pace of your eating. Lots of people wolf down their food in a rush to get back to their busy lives. Rather than eating your meals really fast, take some time to savor your food. Slow down when you eat, and relish every bite. This can make you feel full quicker. You will be less prone to overeat if you slow down and enjoy your meal.

Try sharing a plate with a loved one or friend when out at a restaurant. Entree portions are usually more than sufficient for two and eating this way will cut down on calories. Eating in this way will save you money and cut down on overeating. This lets you eat out without fear of ruining your new healthy diet.

All throughout the day, try to encourage more water drinking. Milk and juice are fine once in a while, but always offer water as an alternative. If your kids drink milk and juice all day, they might be hungry at dinner time.

In reasonable amounts, fruit or vegetable juices can replace some servings of raw fruits and veggies. You can get the same vitamins and minerals from fruit juices as you can from fresh fruits and vegetables. You should use a straw when drinking fruit juice because it can cause tooth decay.
