Claudius
Gaian Name: XxFate_of_the_AkatsukixX
------------------------------------------------------------------------||
Character Name(s): Claudius Erebus "Zamiel" Belmont
Age: Centuries - Looks about Forty-Five
Gender: Male
Pureblood or Turned Vampire: Pureblood
Abilities:
Physical - As a predator, Claudius possesses inhuman strength, speed, stamina, and endurance far beyond any human limitations. In addition, his senses are amplified to a primal level. When hunting for blood, Claudius resembles an apex predator, with bestial ability. If injured, Claudius can recover from most lethal forms of injury or sickness, and even reconstitute himself after sustaining grievous injuries.
Immortality - Although most vampires are immortal, Claudius possesses a unique unholy persistence in his immortality. Even when he has been completely destroyed, he has risen again once per century. Claudius keeps the method to his immortality a secret, but it has something to do with his heart. Unless his heart is properly destroyed, Claudius will always find some way to rise again.
Extrasensory Perception - Though this seems to apply primarily to other vampires, Claudius has some awareness over the activities of others. He is able to pick up on the remote actions of others, especially so if they are killed, regardless of distance. This can extend into psychic empathy, through the reading of powerful emotions (such as Mina's true love for Abraham).
Interdimensional Phasing - With only some effort, Claudius can teleport himself short distances. This typically includes through walls, doors, and in his immediate area. However, if he is buried underground, he cannot phase through dirt.
Personality: Claudius fights with ferocity and often-extreme cruelty, rarely shooting to kill until his target has been totally disabled and humiliated. However, he does seem to have some small shred of humanity left in him, as he is still capable of shedding tears, to mean that he is not completely lost. As he is essentially immortal and invincible, Claudius is very egotistical as well. He freely taunts and belittles his opponents, often allowing them to inflict seemingly fatal wounds before healing himself and obliterating his enemy. It can accurately be stated that rather than killing his opponents, he breaks them. However, even with his incredible powers, it is possible to even take Claudius by surprise, usually because of his arrogance.
states that he wishes to find an opponent, a human opponent, with sufficient willpower to destroy him despite his strength. With each failed attempt at his life, Claudius restates his belief that “That which defeats a monster is always a man,” but the phrase could be interpreted on a more universal scale, i.e. “Only a human can rid the world of monsters,”. This would imply that only one who retains their humanity can perform this task, of defeating a monster without another taking its place. Underneath his cocky, arrogant attitude, Claudius seems deeply sad and is envious of humans, for they are blessed with the gift of death and moving on to the next life, while he himself is unable to die and must walk the Earth for eternity until the last day. He clearly regrets his decision to become an immortal monster, and has great respect for humans who have the willpower to endure old age and death. In conjunction, Claudius also holds a great affinity for humans who take pride in themselves, often expressing his desire to die by a human/mortal. He often shows respect for certain humans for their bravery. he is not entirely against immortality. Rather, he believes it is something one must earn. Presumably, he views his own transformation as an escape because he became one, so that he would "never have to cry again.”
Weakness/Dislikes:

Appearance: Claudius
Bio: A man, or perhaps a beast, if you will, who needs no introduction. Hailed as the king of vampires, Dracula's curse began when he turned his back on the light of God, and was transformed into a monster, by none other than the devil himself. However, the man known as Claudius, was not always such, for once upon a time, in time he grew to be a fierce opponent. With his new found powers he joined the war against the Ottomans, using brilliant strategies and tactics in battle, as well striking fear into the hearts of the invaders of Romania. In the years to come, he would continue to protect his land from other threats which arose through the years.

Though with the passage of time, so too did Claudius change, his closest vassals claiming he began practicing dark arts, and making pacts with demons to ensure he would be eternally victorious. In 1462, Claudius returned from his battle against the Turks, bringing an absolute victory to the people of his land and his home, however, in his return, he discovered the death of his wife, Eve, who was tricked into believing that Claudius had fallen, causing her to lose the will to live. Her soul, damned by what Claude discovered to be her suicide, drove him into madness, a hatred growing in his heart for the church and the light as everything he had sworn to protect, ended up one by one being the undoing of the things he held dear. Those close to him claim they saw the devil walk with him that day, as he desecrated his castle's chapel and renounced God, declaring that he will rise from the grave to avenge Mira with all the powers of darkness. In a fit of rage, he stabbed the chapel's stone cross with his sword and drank the blood which pours out of it; on that day, Claude ceased to exist, and Zamiel was reborn.

As Zamiel, he became a cold and cruel man, seeking war for war's sake, and blood for blood's sake. In 1475, his cruelty caught up to him as he lost the throne to Prince Basarab, who imprisoned him, and sought to erase Zamiel's records from history as a tyrant. With help from loyalists, Matthias Corvinus of Hungary, and István Báthory of Transylvania, Zamiel escaped imprisonment, and rose to power as the regent voivode of Transylvania, with the political influences of Matthias and Istvan behind him. Rising to power, Zamiel was feared for a time as the most influential person to ever come into the title of voivode, and heralded as the king of darkness. It wasn't until 1477, when Zamiel marshaled his forces against Prince Basarab to reclaim the lands, did Zamiel leave Transylvania. With Zamiel's offensive, battle after a grueling and bloody battle, it was thought that Zamiel's reclamation of Wallachia and all of Romania were certain, or so Istvan and Mathias thought. Zamiel reportedly disappeared during the final siege of Wallachia, survivors of the battle claiming he "vanished into the light of the sun".

For a time, Romania knew peace.

It wouldn't be until 1897, a young Johnathan Harker claimed to meet with a man who went by the name "Zamiel", residing in an ancient castle within Transylvania, a count who took a certain interest in London. Zamiel's extended business with Harker lead him into making acquaintances with Harker's friends and family, including Mina Harker, Abraham Van Helsing, Lucy Westernra and Quincey Morris. Zamiel accompanied Harker, Quincy and Van Helsing on several ventures, to secure residence at Carfax Abbey, and come into control of the surrounding territories. During this time, Zamiel becomes enamored with Mina, in the occasional visits he had with her over the period of time. Zamiel came to see Eve's soul within Mina, leading him to further desire her. Zamiel tried displacing his desires, seeing them as a distraction, he occupied himself with seducing and twisting Lucy Westernra into his darkness, this to provide a distraction. Inevitably, he ended up using his relationship with Lucy to further bring himself closer to Mina, giving him a reason to comfort her as her relationship became somewhat strained with Lucy.

Zamiel would go on to spend a great deal of time with the Harkers, and come to reveal to Mina, that he knew the reasons behind Lucy's behavior. Inevitably, Zamiel embraced his desires, taking both Mina and Lucy back to his castle in the nights to come. Lucy however, decided to serve Zamiel by delaying the inevitable pursuit by Quincy Morris, Jonathan Harker, and Abraham Van Helsing, that he could make Mina, like her, so they could be together. Zamiel followed through and made a vampire out of Mina, thus began having a torrid affair with her, twisting and bending her from the lady she once was, into the bride of darkness she had become, though torn between her love for Abraham, and her feelings for Zamiel, Mina decided to stay with Zamiel for the duration of her new found dark immortality.

For a time, Zamiel was content, secretly controlling Transylvania from the shadows, while keeping an extended rule in Carfax Abbey, where he could go to and from time to time. During the time Zamiel was gone, Mina and Lucy began forming a romantic relationship, it was Lucy, who desired Mina, urging her to consider her deepest feelings, thus Mina came to realize it was Abraham who she truly loved. Inevitably, Jonathan Harker discovered Lucy's infidelity, upon finding Mina's clothing and personal belongings in his chamber this which would begin the inevitable suspicions which Lucy had foresaw would occur. Knowing what had occurred with Lucy, Zamiel stayed with Abraham for a time, keeping his friend separated from Jonathan, when Lucy was revealed to have become a vampire.

Enraged, Jonathan tried what he could to restore Lucy's humanity, but in a fit of anger, ended up slaying her, as his duress was amplified by Morris' claims that she was beyond salvation. Lucy's death was felt by Zamiel, the loss of one of his beloved drove him into a state of anger, contempt and madness, leading him to begin abusing the servants of his castle, and occasionally those of house Van Helsing. Upon Zamiel's return to Transylvania, he reunited with Mina at the old chapel where he had first sworn off the light of God, and grieved Lucy's death with her. Here, he was hunted down by Abraham Van Helsing, Jonathan Harker, and Quincy Morris, as the revelation of his existence as a monstrosity, brought to their awareness. A battle broke out between the four of them, leading Zamiel into embracing the monster within himself one last time, and becoming something truly not human any longer.

Mina, witnessing her friends, lover, and beloved, all fighting, used the immortal blood within her veins, smearing it upon the chapel's alter to call out to Eve's lost soul, and restore it. The very moment Zamiel felt Eve's soul restored caused him to let his guard down, and was struck a devastating blow by Abraham Van Helsing. With his heart struck through, Zamiel swore in his final moments that he would always be the enemy of the church and the Helsing line, though because of Mina's act of kindness, the land would come to know peace, at least for a time, but that so long as darkness existed within the heart and soul of man, he would always be able to return.

It was then Eve who emerged from the darkness, to carry what remained of Zamiel off into the sunlight. Doing this allowed Mina to be freed from her blood, and as for Zamiel, this time with Eve, he once again vanished into the light. Mina and Abraham, left behind, were able to see life, both in Romania and Carfax Abbey, return to normal. Zamiel's words however, would ring true, as in the years to come it would only be a matter of time before he would awaken again.

Be he a beast, be he a man, matters not, for one so deeply bound to darkness, and contempt, can he ever truly find peace?

~Now
It was in the late 1980's when Zamiel returned once again, making his way to New England to study the new world and the universities it provided. Seeing the changed world, and all the people in it, Zamiel adopted the identity of his first victim, Claudius Belmont. In time, Claudius proceeded to make himself a place of living within New York, near the Historical Society. Using his influence over mortals, Claudius spent the next two decades slowly building wealth, and studying the events of history which had occurred since the last time he walked the earth. In the year 2010, the full extent of his abilities began emerging once more, and with them, visions of events which occurred in a small town. Able to tell that something was amiss, Claudius left his New York estates to one of his trusted vassals, to personally traveled out of the country in order to investigate the strange events surrounding his visions. It was upon arriving at the grounds f the Castle, Claudius began to understand what was going on, that others, similar to himself had emerged, and that there were more of his kind than what he had left behind in Romania.

Claudius believed it was the Harker bloodline, which had continued to exist following his previous falling, which allowed immortals such as himself to exist in the world outside of Romania, this following stories of those with their throats torn out, led Claudius to believe that something more than just dark immortals were in the town. Seeing to make this kingdoms secrets his own, and set up an established coven for the interests of the new immortals, Claudius began buying pieces of property in surrounding outskirts where he would have a replica of his ancestral home constructed. Knowing war as he does, Claudius came to believe that the hunters were being used as pawns by someone else, someone else who also desired to discover the secrets of this new land.Though he remains under the radar to find more information of this new land. It has grown from the time of his absence. He has been alive since before Christ and in that doing he was very good at keeping his existence a secret until he wanted to make a great entrance.
