Shortwave Radio - This Useful Link For The World
The Juan de Fuca Marine Trail on Vancouver Island begins at the other end of the town of Port Renfrew from the West Coast Trail, effectively continuing it for another 47 kilometers, going from Botanical Beach to China Beach. The Juan de Fuca trail is directly across the Juan de Fuca Strait from the Olympic Mountains in the U.S. state of Washington. It is not as long as the West Coast Trail, but does have its own challenges. And of course, the terrain and climate are a bit different, giving the trail its own unique character. Access, the crowd hiking the trail, communication, travel difficulty, length, and the sights along the way are some of the main considerations for deciding to hike this trail.

There are many uses of the shortwave radio band, but the most common communications are: Domestic broadcasting, international broadcasting to foreign audiences, and communication among IC-4088SR operators. A popular hobby of shortwave listeners is referred to as DXing. In Dxing the goal is to hear as many stations as possible from as many countries as possible all around the world. Many of these foreign stations provide confirmation in the form of QSL cards, and various other promotional items to shortwave listeners confirming their reception.

You can listen in on mayday calls -- a chilling mayday of an east coast United States (Long Island Sound, New York) scuba mayday, where the caller's understandable panic garbles communications. You can listen in as the captains of sinking boats do their best to provide broad local descriptors of their location.

Related to access, communication is a big issue in the wilderness. Cell phones work along the way, but usually only for emergencies. Some network access is possible from the eastern end, but usually through U.S. networks, which have a nice roaming charge attached. The town of Jordan River and Port Renfrew are at either end of the trail, or near, so phone access is relatively easy. Satellite phone access is easy from the beaches, but may be problematic in denser forested areas. VHF icom marine radio is also a possibility, although technically, for use on the water.

After you have your trip line aboard, remove it from the anchor crown. Rinse the line in fresh water, dry it well, and coil it back down into your anchor locker.

All group equipment needed to reach base camp and climb the mountain: cooking gear, fuel, stoves, ropes, all forms of rock and ice protection, icom communications, oxygen, medical supplies, etc.

This device can be attached very easily to a pet's harness or collar. GPS stands for global positioning system, and it works by picking up signals from cellular towers and satellites as they orbit in space. Some of these devices are so unique they can even supply text and email alerts to notify you of your dog's location.

Pining for a device that will turn the mountains of tapes he has hoarded over the years? The cassette tape converter will turn his old tapes into MP3s so he can listen to these on his latest iPod, PC or in his car to work. Make his dream a reality by recovering his lost love.
