Honesty.
Kasey's Story[p1c1]

The day started at 7:00am. The alarm was beeping in his ear. Five more minutes he thought to himself and launched his left arm out of the cover, hitting the Snooze button on the alarm clock that was sat on the nightstand. Then, as if all the strength had just vanished from his body, he let his arm drop to the side of the bed scraping his fingers on the edge of the nightstand. Drifting back into a light sleep. Thoughts of his late wife appeared. She was spinning around in a golden field with their daughter Kasey in her arms. The golden grass was moving in the summer breeze and the sky a clear blue with no clouds in site. The sound of her laughter mixed with the sound his daughters in the air. As she stopped spinning she turned to look at him with a bright smile. Her eyes full of joy. It seemed so real. 'Beep, beep, Beep! BEEP!' The alarm had started again. ''Oh for god sake'' he moaned without opening his eyes. He reached up and slammed the alarm clock for a second time this morning , this time to turn it off. He opened his eyes and shoved back the sheet with his feet. Placing first his right leg, then his left leg to the side of the bed. As he stood up he stumbled slightly quickly regaining his balance. As he came around a smile crept up across his face. Partly because of the dream he'd so rudely been awakened from by his alarm clock. Party because he had just realized what day it was. It's October 7th 2003. His Daughters fifth birthday.

Mathew lived alone with his young daughter Kasey after Sarah passed away. Sarah was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma in February of 2001 and passed on November 10th the same year. Sarah had made Kasey a scrapbook for her birthday that year, though Kasey didn't seem to interested in it at the time. She'd covered it with a purple velvet on the outside and had sewn on, in Long hand. Kasey's Family. She had also sewn on flowers in a verity of beautiful colours and leaves falling freely around the front cover. Inside she had placed pictures of their family life together. The day she and Mathew first met. The weekend they took off to a cabin. Their wedding day. Kasey growing inside of Sarah. Kasey at the hospital the day she was born. Kasey's first, second and third Birthday. Under each picture was a message from Sarah to Kasey. She knew she wasn't going to have the joy of watching her daughter grow into a woman. So she had wanted to make something for Kasey she would always remember her by. Something she could also continue to fill over her life time. When Sarah died Mathew had no one to help him raise Kasey. Sarah had no living family and his Mother had passed away in 1998 and his father a few short years after in 2000. The only living relatives he had was a cousin and a great aunt and uncle. He saw his cousin from time to time but David was a big television star and in 2001 he was back on air making a new show. A show that would soon be rated one of the best crime show dramas on television. Mathew was a good father to Kasey. He doted on Kasey and she on him. She smiled almost every moment she was with him. He worked as a chef in one of Los Angeles finest Vegan restaurants. His boss was an understanding man and allowed him to work around Kasey. His boss Micheal was a good man and had four children of his own. Mathew was a good friend to him as well as an employee at the restaurant. Kasey was now in Kindergarten so Mathew work in the week days and Micheal let him have the weekends off. On the weekends he would spend all his time with Kasey. He was never interested in socializing with women after Sarah's passing. Instead he would take Kasey to the park to play soccer or other sports. Swimming. Ice-Skating. Ice-Skating was Kasey's favorite. The first time Mathew took Kasey ice-skating She took to the ice like a duck to water at just four years old . Mathew was a big Hockey fan and a huge supporter of the Flyers. Every game they played Mathew and Kasey would sit on the sofa together scoffing pop-corn and drinking soft drinks. Kasey loved it. When the Flyers scored they'd both jump up and down shouting in joy. The look Mathew had in his eyes when looking at his beautiful daughter cheering with him, was priceless. He was the proudest father in the world.

Mathew walked from his room yawning and stretching making his way to Kasey's room. He slowly opened the door and walked in. He stopped a moment to to take in the sight of his beautiful daughter. She had ended up with her head at the bottom of the bed. The covers on the floor but still somehow managed to keep a hold of her stuffed rabbit he'd bought her for Christmas. She looked so peaceful like she was having nothing but sweet dreams. He walked over to her bed and picked up the covers folding them and placing them at the top of the bed. He gently patted her and said in almost a whisper. ''Kasey. Kasey, it's time to wake up honey.'' Her bright blue eyes slowly opened and she gave him a sleepy smile. ''Morning Daddy'' She said softly, rubbing her eyes with a closed first to get rid of the sleepiness. '' Good morning sweetheart. Happy Birthday!'' Mathew Replied as she stood on the bed. She then wrapped her arms around Mathews neck giving him a big hug. He picked her up and took her downstairs were they ate breakfast. Kasey was a very smart and very pleasant child. She did everything her dad asked without question. She was kind. Polite. She had very good manors. Most importantly, she a happy child. ''Kasey what shall we do after school today? It's your birthday so we can go anywhere, do anything. It's your pick sweetheart.'' Kasey put her plate in the sink and looked up at Mathew. She smiled and replied ''Can we go ice-skating Daddy?'' She paused and then added ''Please.'' ''Of course we can, just don't leave me behind on the ice. Ok?'' He started to laugh. Kasey Joined in the laughter. ''Ok sweetheart go upstairs and get your uniform out ready.'' Kasey turned around ran to the stairs and bounced up them like her feet were attached to springs.

They both sang along to Foreignr songs in the car before arriving at the Kindergarten. When they got in the classroom Mathew turned Kasey to face him. She looked up smiling. He wished her happy birthday again and gave her a kiss on the forehead before turning to leave. ''Mr Dorean, Mr Dorean!'' He turned to face Kasey teacher Mrs Henderson.
''Yes?'' He looked surprised. ''Hi Mr Dorean, would it be possible to have a few words this afternoon when you come to collect Kasey?'' She said in a calm and friendly manor. Puzzled and worried he said ''Is everything Ok? Has Kasey gotten into trouble?'' No she couldn't have not my little girl he thought. ''No, no. Not at all. Kasey is a wonderful student.'' She looked at him and said no more. ''Ok. Sure I'll see you at three then.''
''See you at three Mr Dorean.'' and with that he turned and left the class room. Kasey was watching from her seat. The boy Adam next to her was trying to get her attention but she was to busy waving at Father. A sad expression landed on her face when he forgot to turn round to wave back. Then a knock came at the window behind her chair. She turned to see Mathew waving at her. Her expression quickly turned into happiness and she waved back and then after a few moments he left.

It just gone past three and all the children were running out of the school like a dears fleeing from a predator. Mathew walked to Kasey's room he looked through the glass on the door to see Kasey sat with Mrs Henderson at her desk giggling about something Mrs Henderson must have just said. He opened the door and she screamed ''Daddy, Daddy!'' She jumped into his arms and he gave her a big squeeze. ''Hello Mr Henderson. Thanks for coming. Kasey?'' Kasey turned her head to face her teachers. ''Would you mind waiting outside the classroom door for a moment please. I'd like to have a little word with you Daddy.'' Mrs Henderson smiled at Kasey. Kasey turned to face Mathew and he gave her a nod. He placed her back onto the ground and gave her a wink. ''Go on birthday girl. I wont be long. Promise.'' They both wrapped one and others pinky fingers around each other and shook. ''Okay Daddy!'' Kasey said leaving the room and closing the door behind her. After Kasey had left the room Mrs Henderson spoke with Mathew about Kasey. She started by telling Mathew that Kasey was extremely smart and surpassing all the other children her age. She told him Kasey was talented with her art work and her reading skills were that of a nine year old. She then went on to tell him that she did have some concerns about Kasey. She would only speak to other children if they spoke to her first and that in the playground she choose to play by herself. Mathew took in what Mrs Henderson was saying and then told her that Kasey had a big imagination and that she enjoys playing by herself and he made clear that he thought there was nothing wrong with it. He shook her hand and then left in a hurry.

The first place they went to was the mall for Kasey to pick out a new toy. They went in a few toy shops and Kasey couldn't seem to find anything that she wanted. Kasey wasn't a greedy little girl. She didn't ask for much. She was happy with what she had and grateful for her things. They went in two or three more toy shops, still nothing Kasey wanted. Then Mathew had an idea. ''Kasey. How about a bike for your birthday?''
''Yeah!'' She jumped in the air tugging on Mathews leather sleeve. Then she paused. ''But I dun't know how to ride a bike Daddy.'' Mathew picked her up and moved her bangs from her face. Gave her a wink and said. ''Well We can buy some training wheels to start with and then I'll teach you how to ride it once you get used to it. We can even go to the park tomorrow and try out your new ride. How about that?'' She jerked her head up and down in excitement and off they went to pick out a bike for Kasey. Kasey picked a light blue bike with sparkly tinsel coming out of either side of the handle bars. Also blue. It had training wheels attached to it. An extra seat on the back where she could place her stuffed rabbit. It was perfect. They put it in the back of the car and then went on to go ice-skating. At the rink Kasey kept her promise not to leave her Father behind.
