Compact the soil gently but firmly to be certain that it is indeed flat. Make sure the soil is thoroughly moist. Lay the sod in straight rows, ensuring the seams meet perfectly. Press the sod down firmly so that the surface is flat and even. If there are gaps remaining, fill them with a bit of soil. Sod has to be watered daily for two weeks, and then it can be rooted.

Remember to remove weeds from the garden. Those nasty weeds can turn your beautiful garden into a scruffy version of its former self. White vinegar can be used as a natural herbicide. Use it instead of chemical solutions to kill weeds. If you are too busy to pull weeds by hand, make a white vinegar solution and keep it handy for a quick spray when needed.

If beautiful flowers throughout the warmer months are important to you, make sure you put bulbs into the ground. Since bulbs are easy to grow and resistant to poor weather conditions, they will grow without fail year after year. Include a variety of plantings to get a full season of flowers, from early bloomers to late-season varieties.

Do not mow your lawn close to the bottom. If you leave more height to your grass, the roots will grow deeper into the soil, making the lawn stronger and more resistant to drying out. If you have short grass, you will have short roots and you will dry out your grass.

You can use boiling water to get rid of weeds naturally. Considering that boiling water is rather safe, you don't have to worry about toxins in your soil or at your dinner table. Just douse the weeds directly with boiling water, taking care to avoid damaging nearby plants. Boiling water damages weed and plant roots, so be sure to avoid the plants you don't want to eliminate.

Mint leaves are wonderful, but don't you despise how quickly they can take over a garden due to rapid growth? Instead of planting mint in your garden, keep it in a large container or pot to prevent it from spreading. If you prefer, you can even place the container in the ground, but the pot's walls will prevent the mint from spreading and being a nuisance in your garden.

Try growing your peas indoors for the first couple months. Seeds are more likely to sprout when started indoors. This method also results in hardier seedlings that can better resist insects and disease. Once they grow a bit bigger, the seedlings can be easily transplanted to an outdoor garden.
