Goddammit, me. These moments when I feel like kicking myself and the internet is a good place to throw it all away into the void.

One of the worst things you can do as a writer/reader
Is to kind of pigeonhole yourself into a single genre, I think. And I just realized, I've kind of done that. I always say, I need a book, I need a book, I need a book like how a drug addict would say that they would need another hit for relief after a long, suffering withdrawal. What I need isn't a book - I need a good book outside of what I normally read. And I know that I don't read a whole deal of different genres or experience a lot of author's. Which means, either I'm going to have to add more things to my reading palette, or I'm going to have to cut down a little on a specific genre of my writing / reading - those dystopias, post-apocalyptic, dark things.

Yep. YA novels gotta get a mix up. Peruse the other shelves, too. I've slotted myself into the YA genre without even realizing - not that that's a bad thing, but, still. There's an entire library if I just not gravitate over to the YA's. If I find nothing of interest, then I'll lope back to my old habits.
