I found housing with a bunch of business school kids from Singapore. I think we can be friends by bonding over a mutual love of LoL. I hope.
My mother just texted me. She said:
Dear Baby smile
How are you? I sent you lot of message with the wrong phone number. They sent me message for charge ,25 per message. Till today I found. That is why I called you many times no answer. Thanks GOD.

For some reason, she uses smile all the time as some form of punctuation. I think she picked it up from my cousin.
I replied:
I am fine thanks. Just use [my cousin's] phone then.
Because she has my number stored on it.
And she said:
Dear baby smile
you know I called my mother before she passed away. I can hear her talk through outside but her phone she can not hear me. Then I am busy with school and house tenants problem. Just two weeks my mother passed away. she asked around why I did not call her. This is very sad for me.

Basically she is guilt-tripping me into calling her or something. Like when she wants me to fill out her financial aid for college, she forwards me the link and says, "Hi baby how are you doing today? Take care. Go to church."
Everything she does is always so indirect and convoluted. It annoys me mildly because I am a very direct person.
I don't know what to say. I find it weird that parents can spend the first fifteen years beating you and screaming at you and showing no signs of affection, and then suddenly become needy when you leave and expect you to change too.
I don't really love them as much as I admire them for their efforts and know I owe a huge debt that I feel morally obliged to pay off. I guess technically I could take their care as something I was owed from birth--
My roommate said, You don't owe them anything. Parents are supposed to take care of you.
Just like my roommate said, Why did you ask the professor to give you a new exam when you could just retake the exam you took before?
Because I am afflicted with an insanity called ethics. Thanks.
tl,dr: Don't know how to reply to my mom's text message.
My cousin is way better at this than I am. She forgives more easily and shows affection more easily, which really is all my parents want.
I show affection by doing things for you, but I'm not comfortable with hugs or saying things.
Are you like that? How do people get good at just saying "I love you" easily?
After much griping I said
I am fine and you are fine. That is good.
And she seems happy with that. Yay.
Today I met a guy named Osiris. That's a badass name.
A guy behind me on the phone said loudly, "Alright, I'll groom myself. I'll groom myself."
