The Lord of House Hale was in a surprisingly bad mood this morning.
He did have a permanent frown, and seemed to be a rather angry man (such was the town gossip). However, this morning seemed to be a particular annoyance. Partially, it was from his uncle, Peter, who was trying his hardest to get into the skirts of the new maid. The other half was from the unrest amongst the peasents, who seemed to have found a new target for their superstitions.
All in all, it was deeply irritating, and Derek was not going to deal with one half of it. Take a guess as to which.
So, Derek had his best horse saddled and made ready for him while he dressed in the clothes fit for a Lord of his station. Technically, he was not yet Lord Hale; that title was currently held in limbo until Derek could be bequeathed it by the King.
