Today's subject is a book titled Green Angel.
It came out around 2003, and I believe it was around 2005 when I read it. Not that that part is important sweatdrop
This book is more or less geared toward young adults, but I feel that it is really for all ages. It is an all time favorite of mine and always will be.
The main character is a 15 year old girl named Green, who lives with her parents and sister. She is very patient, timid, and reserved and is the caretaker of the family's garden. One day the family goes to town to sell produce and leaves Green at home. That day a disaster happens in the town that wipes out a large portion of the population, including Green's family.
When Green goes outside, she discovers ash everywhere and it gets in her eyes, leaving her partially blind. When she realizes her family didn't make it, she changed her identity completely in an attempt to hide the pain and renames herself Ash. She even goes on to creating ink and tattoos her whole body with ravens, vines, and roses.
One day a boy her age shows up. He never speaks yet she seems to understand him. She names him Diamond. He stays with her a while, and they fall in love. But eventually he disappears to try to find his mother, whom he believes survived the disaster. As time goes on Ash visits an elderly lady who helps Ash heal. Once she finally overcomes her grief her tattoos change colors. The vines turn green and the roses turn red. Ash finally finds herself again and goes back to the name Green.
It really is a good book about getting over fears and pain and finding yourself.
