‘Yes?’ she asks patiently. She clears a path; wandering eternity.
‘When does the end come?’ they cry out.
‘Punishment is taken by those who deserve it.’ She repeats the sentence; their punishment.
They shout at her.
She ignores their screams.
‘Eternity’ she whispers under her breath.
The path lit by her steps and surrounded by udder darkness.
She smiles sweetly a them as they attempt to throw themselves off and out of the path.
Rebounded and thrown back into line, they continue walking slowly into desolation.
-‘What punishment has been decided?- Alice remembers.
-‘Let them walk; through eternity. The darkness will catch them one by one. Let them fade away. Good riddance.’-
Poor souls, she thinks and then smirks.
‘Punishment is taken by those who deserve it.’ She repeats.
They moan out, eerily wailing out into oblivion.
She starts to sing a tune well known to all the scared, tarnished souls.
They start to scream out in pain as each note is carefully placed and sung out loud.
‘How dare you!’ the words echo followed by pleas for the silence to return.
She continues to sing the slow, melancholy tune ignoring the scream, the cries, and they pleas.
They scream louder, but she sings even louder ensuring that they hear.
Overrun by her angelic and demeaning voice, they start to fade into the darkness.
Their tarnished lights blend and disappear off the path.
Forgotten, alone, and … Alice thinks about it peaceful.
Alone and peaceful.
How wonderful.
She stops singing.
Voices echo out their sighs.
They’ll be saved.
At least for another time.
Whenever Alice chooses.
After all, she has eternity; so do they.
