I meet it about half way between where we were both standing and it leads with such a predictable move I've memorized the response. It tries to snatch me with both clawed paws so I put my swords, one on both sides, to block it. Then I push off the ground with enforce to kick the beast on the bottom of it's chin and push off it's nose to flip completely around. As I reach the peak of my flip I see Alex's bolt pass below and strike the creature in it's neck. An imediate death shot.
As I land perfectly on the ground again, I can see the true severity of the situation. Hundreds of men already dead, several more wounded. A couple of creatures wounded, only one dead, even more coming. Alex is my side in a second. Both of us know what we have to do now. The one thing we never wanted to do.
"Retreat!" we both shout, "Get to the boats!"
Our command is echoed and all of the soldiers are running through the swamplands to the sea where a small fleet of boats is waiting as a last resort of escape. Me and Alex take up the rear running on the heals of the youngest men in what used to be an army. In about a minute we are at the edge of the ocean ordering people onto the one ship we need. The creatures are a 100 yards away when I notice a young girl screaming for her father to hurry and get up. I can see the man, covered in blood with a shredded left leg.
