Crumpled Paper Valentine
I look at the crumpled paper valentine and laugh
xxxxxcandy wrappers litter the floor, hastily discarded
I pick them up one by one, it is my solemn duty
xxxxxand they stick, slick, to my hands as I try to trash them
It is a small price to pay for a laugh
xxxxxthe crumpled paper was an even smaller cost
wasn’t crumpled when it was made into a valentine:
xxxxxglitter glue crusts to it, a cheap addition.
but everything about the holiday costs little.
xxxxxEspecially a laugh.
I find it silly and trite that only one day a year is given to courage
xxxxxand so I laugh, and give cause for laughter.
I signed the Valentine "from someone you hate"
xxxxxIt didn’t take long for it to join the candy wrappers
Her expression as disgusted as the floor.
