Blindness pt 1
The sturdy buildings were covered in sheets of downy snow and most

of the peoples were inside their warm homes. The moonlight illuminated the stony

walkways as a girl's footsteps were softened by the crunch of snow beneath her

shoes. Her face was hiden beneath a leather mask that covered her nose and lips,

it was secured with twine lace up the right cheek. Her auburn hair was let loose,

feathering into uneven spikes. Her green eyes followed the pattern of foot steps in

the snow towards an alleyway. She had been suspecting he would hide away here,

this town was almost too perfect a location to escape to. She herself would like to

have the luxury of running off to some little town. But that didn't mean she would be

stupid enough to go through with it, no they would find her somehow. Just like now,

she had been ordered to find and bring back Macall Hail. She looked down at her

gloved hands, the tips of her fingers were turning pink from the cold. Her arm

bracers were tight and brought an odd comfort to her, they reminded her that she

was human at the moment, that she could feel pain.

She was so close to her target, she could see the familar shock of raven hair

that could only belong to her once friend Macall. She stopped in front of his

slumped form, not knowing how she would like to proceed. To make matters worse,

he was looking up at her with sad blue eyes.

"I knew the council would send you of all people, Thais." She stared into his face,

not knowing what the best reply was. He was her friend, but she knew the

punishment for running away. She had gone through it herself before and now it

forced her to wear a mask. She lifted her hands to write her thoughts on the small

tablet she had to carry around with her at all times.

"I don't want to do this, but I can't afford to let them take anymore from you that

they haven't already decided on," she wrote. He looked down sadly.

"They haven't punished you for my actions have they?" he asked alarmed. She

tried to hide the pain that still trobbed on her arms underneath the braces and her

metal corset. She looked down noticing she wasn't going to answer. He gripped her

arm braces and undid the lacing, making them fall to the ground. Macall looked

horrified at the sight before him. Thais had fresh tattoo marks up and down her

upper arms, they had symbols of obdience and pain. They were no doubt put on

her by force and extremely painful. He swallowed the guilt in his throat and handed

her back the braces, anger clear in his eyes. Of course they would tourture

someone who couldn't voice pain. They had taken that from her too.
